So what are your favourite Canadian license plates?

Personally, I've always been partial to the NWT and Yukon license plates. I liked the old PEI one with Anne of Green Gables. That one was pretty neat as well.

I like it simple like Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland. Otherwise, it is so kitsch.

NWT/Nunavut just because it's not the standard rectangle, I love it.

I think Alberta needs to overhaul as well, but I would think most people would want something oil related. It would be cool if we could do something like I remember in Florida, how different parts had slightly different plates. The orange, space shuttle, and there were some others. Then you could specify what you wanted.

I like the BC and Ontario plates the best - nice and simple and elegant. The variant of the PEI one with the Confederation Bridge on it is neat too. I also like the Albertan government logo, and Newfoundland and Saskatchewan are okay too.

I recall some states giving the option of two or three colors and patterns based on what University team they cheered for.

I think it would be awesome to let Albertans have similar choices, but base them on Oiler, Eskimos, Flame and Stampeder colors and graphics.

I know Albertans don't have a long history like we have in East Canada (from Ontario to Newfoundland) but I am sure you can find something better than a Cowboy mega-meet link or a Sport team logo...

Nothing negative, just my point of view.

As of a couple of years ago, you no longer need a front plate in Saskatchewan. I'd say it's a 50-50 split between those that do and don't.

It's like that for us Albertans and we don't have to leave Alberta to notice it. Unbelievable how many out of town plates you see in Alberta these days.

I agree with PhilippeMtl. Themed license plates featuring cowboys and sports teams are the last thing Alberta needs. Last playoff run there were enough of those stupid window-mounted flags; the last thing we need is most branded shit hanging off cars.

I think the best plates are the most simple and classic. Ontario and Quebec plates look quite nice and they are easy to read. I also really like the look of Nova Scotia's plates.

I like the seven-digit license plate number. The next step would be legislation which required every car to have a mobile phone that used the license plate number as a telephone number. There are all kinds of useful applications for this:

01. No more middle fingers. Simply call up the SUV that just cut you off and tell him what an asshole he is.

02. No more honking at honking at attractive women behind the wheel. One phone call and you could be meeting at the Wendy's drive-thru for a romantic date.
