Pfft... Calgary doesn't have anything old or run-down. This city was constructed from scratch in 1982. :jester:

Nice pictures. Good to see another side of Calgary we don't see a lot.

Thanks for the comments!!!

I will admit to being disparaged by how few responses threads like this elicit. Almost not worth posting, but it's still gratifying that few of you can appreciate what I'm up too.
Expect another one liek this next week.

^^ Are you referring to the dumbass comments a few jerkoffs made about your Molson pics? fuck 'em. With the amount of development photos Boris takes it's almost pointless for anyone else to bother taking those kind of shots. I personally am beyond grateful that someone is taking some more artful photos around the city. Please don't "not bother." In fact, we should put some of these on the CUI site.

Jeff, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Some people just don't want to think outside the box at all. If I were to post some images that we are exposed too in my advanced photo classes some of our more unitelligible forumers would truly aghast. I will continue to make these threads as long as a few people respond. I love the small things that are alla round us if you stop to take the time and appreciate....with a 30D.
Please do put them ont he CUI site.

^^ Arriviste, awesome photos. While shots like this can be found in most cities, you almost never see them from Calgary. The temptation is so strong to shoot the "usual suspects" and neglect the street character. With these though, you did capture a little more of the street charm. Bang on.

Great photos Arriviste! I love seeing pics of Calgary from a different perspective, rather than the usual office building shots.

Great shots...it's the details I like, and the details I like to paint. I haven't yet done any in Calgary's downtown - hopefully by spring I'll have some to share as well (just have one Winnipeg one left for now).

Keep these shots coming!

Don't take the lack of commentary personally. Speaking only for myself, it sometimes seems pointless to be the tenth person to say "nice shots" but that doesn't mean they aren't appreciated. The development shots are nice for those of us that are out of town alot but yours are interesting on an entirely different level.

Do you mean to say that Calgary is more than shiny buildings and a cocky ego?!

Dear sir, I AM impressed!

Wandering around back alleys taking pictures of shit is fun. :)

I enjoyed these two in particular. Arriviste, I think partly the reason the responses took a while is that you posted it on a Sunday. Traffic is typically slower...

Anyway, I really hope you continue posting. One thing I'd do next time is reduce the size a bit. It sucks when the whole image can't fit on the screen at once. I will use one of these images for my next blog entry on the CUI site. Don't forget to check in and read it from time to time people!

What's your setup for this shot?

What time of day?

Good points Josh. I should resize maybe. I'm spoiled with 20" LCD's in the lab, so these seem plenty small.
Blue, I will check my camera right now for the info.
It was about 1:30 in the afternoon on sunday, sun coming from up and behind left.
1/640 f4.0 on my 30D. No flash. I can send you the high def version of it if you'd like. PM me. That applies to anyone. Some look even better at full resolution.

I'm in the same boat as Bassic Lab. Your pictures are very interesting and artistic Arriviste, and in particular I really like the one of the Garbage Dumpster, and the Rusting Metal Grid. It takes a lot of skill to turn a rundown/rusting/vacant building into the focus of a good picture; especially compared to taking a nice picture of a shinny new building. Although, you still need to possess some skill to complete the latter, so cheers and keep them coming Arriviste and Boris!

I like them...I think you did a good job of capturing the grittiness of the downtown core that a lot of us don't always (or want to) see.
