Oh I love how you guys mess up with things, steel is still at 104M.
Otie that is what i think also. The top row of beams behind the blue cocoon are for floor 104 at 1,313' and the beams at the core just above them were for 104M at 1,323' In the last picture from Carlos it looks like the beams at the core and the ones that went in on Monday have mounts on them that stick up above the beam to install future vertical steel. I do want to see the corner node installed so we can see the roof line elevation. Could someone put arrows on a picture of the top and put the floor#s with them.104-104M

Come on guys, we all know that topping out is when the last piece of steel is put into place on the superstructure and a tree is placed on it. That hasnt happened yet.

Official topping out per the parameters we use on this website will occur when cladding reaches the top of the parapet.

If that picture is up to date, the steel should be the decking of 104th. Does the 105th get a decking? Or is it only the floor the parapet starts on? If first, it shouldnt be topped out yet. But if not,.. it might has reached it structural height...

Correct me If I'm wrong, but 105 is the roof, so it will be decked. It has to be decked,to support the antenna.
NewYorker2009
Jul 10, 2012, 7:49 PM
105 will be decked and poured with concrete. Then the mast will be installed from there but if you look at how slowly things have been moving lately who knows when the Tower will reach it's structural height.

The ceremony at 4 WTC was when the very last piece of steel went in, not the first piece of steel at the top.
No it was not, it was scheduled around when it was convenient for Silverstein. If it was the last piece, how do you explain them lifting steel 2 days later on 4 WTC that hit the 46th floor curtain wall and closed down the streets and memorial for hours.DCM is still erecting steel between 64 & roof level.

I wouldn't be surprised if they said they were waiting for the invention of the time-machine to top it off on 4th of July,1776 to make it even more "symbolic".:haha:

No chance. Firstly, the building tapers as it rises, if you look closely, the steel almost touches at the top now.Secondly, the foundations and building were designed to support the amount of floors it has, no more. Look at Modern Marvels, Engineering Diasasters, they did a episode on what happens when you add more floors.

That's Todt Hill, on Staten Island.
I think it's one of the highest points in NYC. It's the wealthiest neighborhood in Staten Island, and there's some tower at the top of the hill.

No.
A) Engineering, physics, and business don’t work that way. You don’t get to tack on more floors at the last minute without telling anyone and making substantial redesigns of the internal structure.
B) This isn’t like the burj Khalifa or the original Twins where the external design and geometry of the tower could be easily modified to increase its height and still look correct. The facets and edges of 1WTC are straight, continuous, and terminate at definite end-points / intersections. If you added more floors at this point, it would be like sticking a whole new design (what design? a box?) on top of a tower that is otherwise quite obvious in where it is “supposed” to end. If you wanted 1WTC to be taller but with the same design, you’d have had to design it that way before steel ever got above the lobby.
C) This tower is fine as it is. It would be better with the radome enclosure, but the height is fine and that topic has been done to death with nothing good ever coming from it.

A recent video I made featuring a lookback at 1WTC's "childhood" in 2006-2010 using 3D models of 1WTC's steel base and underground supercolumns.
It's been a long time since we've seen the big red steel beams being lifted and installed, but yet it felt just like yesterday.

Carlos, I've noticed for the past few pics that the cranes are holding that steel in the same place, what's going on?

What have the cranes been doing for the past few days it looks like they've been moving but no visible progress. Is there something about 104 that's different from the other floors making it take more time or is it just a delay?

But, what the hell are they waiting for to top out the tower ???!!
only ten little meters are missing !!
is it so hard to build a 106th floor ??
almost one month since the last jump !
Seriously I don't understand:koko:
in Europe it could be explained by one of these regular strikes (ok, i joke), but here I don't get it ....
Someone to explain me why the tower is unmoved since the end of may ?

The crane/s are simply tied down the core beams. It's not holding anything.
Also guys, chill out with the what's taking so long banter! We lost some time because of the heat. Would you want to be working 1300 + feet in the air walking on a beam, moving tons of steel and get heat stroke, faint and fall? I didn't think so.
Look, this is a very complex part of the tower. Just use some common sense and think about it. It's not just a roof they are building out here. There will be some major tonnage on top of the roof with the mechanical, H-VAC, communication ring and mast all needing to be supported. It's going to take some time to build out.
Enjoy it while it lasts. It will be over before you know it.

You can't keep stoping because of the heat. Heatwave number 3 is coming and is starting tommorow.

When the early steel for the southern half of the core was built, part of it overhung the north side for quite a while, unconnected, unlike they way shown in your video. FWIW.

I'll say it again - here on the skyscraperpage forum we have NO CONTROL over the pace and timing of the construction. All of these repeated questions over "what's taking so long"
or "why nothing has changed in the past hour" can be sent over to the Port Authority. Just watch the progress like the rest of us. If it hasn't changed enough to your liking for the day,
then tomorrow's another day, and so on. Give it (and us) a rest, please.

Ahhhhh... The Brooklyn Bridge and Lady Liberty pics. :) The wallpaper on my phone is set to a Brooklyn Bridge view of 1 WTC that I took on my visit last month - so when I bring up the screen I see it every time. :) 1 WTC looks damn magnificiant at that angle! Also just imagine how lovely 1 WTC will look when all of the glass is up and you get them both in a picture. It's going to be so odd when it finally does top out and is completely cladded - it's been under construction for quite a while!

Nice shots Carlos as always. Those columns look to be very close to the parapet height because they look pretty tall and the core columns already extend to 104M.
