Since a kid I have always loved buildings that visually terminated a street, for me these buildings were the ultimate expression of the city and that these buildings were so to speak the top dog. I only know of a few buildings that end an otherwise typical cityscape with there presence of a bold imposition. I’m opening this thread for discussion of these types of buildings and hopefully as an outlet for others to post similar buildings.
Buffalo, Main Street, HSBC Tower:
http://www.buffalopix.com/nfta%20and%20hsbc.gif
Unfortunately this was the only picture that I could find.
New York, Park Avenue, New York Central Building:

Later followed by.....
New York, Park Avenue, Met Life Building:

http://www.nyc-architecture.com/MID/MID030-Pan_Am_Bldg.jpg
http://www.mld.co.jp/photo/townscape/nyc/ny90-1.jpg
Whereas most of these types of buildings only terminate one or two streets, the Met Life Building terminates four.

trump tower chicago is shaping up to be a magnificent street terminator. here's a little montage Bvictor put together to show how it will be a terminator for all 4 cardinal directions (3 streets and 1 river canyon).
Someone on Skyscrapercity was talking about how Trump Tower will act as a terminus to Wabash Avenue, and I decided to just throw this together.
It will be a terminus from all 4 directions pratically.
From east-to-west: Looking at it from the turnung basin west of the Chicago locks, from Lake Shore Drive, Columbus Drive, and to some extent Michigan Avenue.

From west-to-east: Looking down Kinzie Street. It won't make as great of an impact from there because of the buildings setbacks, but you'll notice the verticle edge.

From north-to-south: We already know the impact looking south down Wabash. It will be spectacular.

From south-to-north: The view down Wabash from the South Loop and beyond and from Lake Street will be stunning.

EDIT: Oh ^, you beat me to it!
A classic roadway terminator: Philadelphia's City Hall. It sits smack-dab in the middle of the two main streets in Philly, Broad Street and Market Street, which forces the streets to create a square around it, and has been confusing out-of-towners since 1901.

I love buildings that do this! The best example in Vancouver is the Marine Building, although it doesn't technically terminate Hastings Street: Hastings skirts around it as the grid switches to diagonal

I for one like when buildings do this. It calls more attention (good and bad) to the building from street level. We really do not have one in Minneapolis. The Hennipen County Government Center is the closest thing we have. When you look down Sixth Street the building looks as if it terminates the street. But in reality the street passes through the building. It is pretty neat but a serious wind tunnel.

nope, mancuso. The idea was to keep the tower, demolish the base and turn the square into a traffic circle. The idea was deemed too expensive and thus shelved - thank goodness.
Other terminal vistas:

Transamerica Pyramid
Philadelphia's Wachovia Building (down an alley street but an impressive view...maybe I'll share it one of these hours).

I would say that MASP in Sao Paulo could be an example, although it does not terminate a road seeing from Av. Paulista its address, but for the point of view of Av. de Julho road, center side half, it could terminate it, even the Av. Nove de Julho pass trough a tunnel to the other side of Av. Paulista Hill. This is quite an old photo but the museum shows a good example. I made a better updated photo today, but I don`t have idea and possibility to post it here.

A JAW-DROPPING visual terminator of colossal proportions is being created in Chicago now as the boring, puny, stumpy Chicago Sun-Times building (which was demolished) is being replaced with the >1300 ft. Trump International Hotel and Tower. This was posted before by Steely Dan, but here are some neat update photos that provide some key previews into how this Godlike corridor is shaping up. Note also that some highrise buildings along this corridor didn't exist a few years ago.
Construction pics were as of 2-3 weeks ago, provided by BVictor and Retrograde at SSC:

The Wisconsin State Capitol terminates 8 axes in total. The 4 wings extend to the cardinal points, and there are entrances between the wings also. This combination of architecture and urbanism is expressive of the idea that a capitol should ideally try not to "face" only a certain part of the state, but welcome all it's citizens.

Also, it's the largest granite dome in the world, 3 ft shorter than the nation's Capitol building, and the interior is stunning, with over 40 types of marble from around the world. Definitely worth a visit!

Yeah, the Wisconsin State Capitol is pretty mind blowing, one of the more lavish structures I've seen in the US. Also, all of the buildings in the downtown area of Madison tend to have a similar attention to detail and luxary probably due to the height restrictions driving up the price of real estate. I never really noticed it until last time I was there, but every single building facing the capitol is just gorgeous, even the brand new ones use richly detailed stones or high quality and detailed curtainwalls.
