Number 102 is awesome.

I really look forward to your threads. They're very inspiring. Can't wait until the spring when I can get out and take pictures of Winnipeg. My clunky old Pentax SP1000 doesn't like the cold.

you basically took this from my new balcony. southern mile-end is a bit more boring, but i guess the anglo-plateau is closer - whatever that's worth.

if i lived somewhere else i would be homesick as anything after this thread.

Winnipeg of the East.

oh dear.

what to say?

we may have a few abandoned factories, and even a lost head office or two - but our candy-store iconography remains far, far more unsettling than that of you western upstarts.

come on:

good lord. that thing is going to give me nightmares.

you must live next door to some of my friends...

actually, most of my friends. for some reason they are all clustered on villeneuve street.

its a shame its so dirty in CDN.

Another great photo essay. Thanks KT.
Walrus, I don't get your dirt-CDN comment. The pics show what cities are. For reference, check out the Los Angeles equivalents. I fear NYC may be too big a leap!

Kilgore Trout

CDN is a dirty neighbourhood, relatively speaking, but a large part of the blame rests with a laissez-faire borough government that doesn't do much in the way of maintenance. whenever there is a snowfall, the borough just waits until the snow melts for days or even weeks after it has been cleared from other boroughs like outremont, the plateau or ville-marie.

not surprisingly, though, NDG fares a lot better than CDN even though it is managed by the same borough council. it's also a lot wealthier... hmm.

Kilgore-
I enjoy how you see Montreal. Good photography. Do you do black and white?
You have a natural and passionate affection for the city, which is apparent. Have you ever taken photos near the Old Mission Brewery? (At times it can be full of life, especially around 5ish.) I used to work with some regulars who visit there and they are friendly people and good subjects. I think you would get great montreal stories from some of them and capture them beautifully. Its easy to volunteer whenever you want, helping with random things for an hour, and from there you might find great things to capture. You would be perfect for that. Just a thought.

i've taken photos around centre-sud and the village, but nothing in the immediate vicinity of the old mission. my time is taxed enough as it is to volunteer for any more places, but i'll consider going down there for photos. thanks for the advice!

Cool. Consider it Kilgore. After following your posts for months I consider you one of the best photographers in this forum. I only mentioned volunteering at the Mission because it would get you close to the subjects. I dont know how you do it, your photos are daringly personal. Do you hide behind trees?
Anyway consider that area. The Old Brewery Mission has a lot of potential, its diverse and full of people who are ugly, beautiful, lost, psycho, hopeful....damn its just overflowing with photographic promise. Your photos tell a story and there are so many there. Just think of it as the ethnoburb of the broke.
