I made a thread called "suburban downtowns" on skyscrapercity canada a long time ago, with a bunch of pictures, so I already know how it'll go down...

How?

Yeah I think I remember that. SSPers seem a bit more mature than SSCers which is why I spend 99% of my time here.

:previous:Thanks! I need to find an easy way to walk across the Alex Fraser to get some more New West shots.

Coquitlam is another one where it is hard to get a good clear sightline where all the towers line up well (and there are no power lines in the way) without climbing on someone's roof, haha.

the roof parking lot at the mall is a good vantage point, and also up johnson street.

I'm looking forward to it too Metro. Van's suburban skylines rarely get enough love both at home and outside of the city.

one of my favourite views is of metrotown from downtown. I used to work at grouse mountain when I was in highschool and I cant even count how many times I had people ask me if it was Seattle.

Oh, and keep the updates of the bridges coming in the Canada section. We may not always comment but they are appreciated for sure.

Yeah I think I remember that. SSPers seem a bit more mature than SSCers which is why I spend 99% of my time here.

Agreed, I can't stand SSC. Only thing it is good for is its more expansive international project updates.

Looks to be around the 6th floor of the old interurban station on the 0blk W Hastings, SW Corner of Hastings and Carrall.
Will be nice once they are able to open up the right of way which goes straight through Alexander.

I just wanted to bring this forum's attention to a hobby of mine which combines my active twittering and love of vancouver and love of photography. There's a group of us (after 8 walks, maybe 20 regular attendees) and we call ourselves #604photowalk and we go on weekend walks throughout a particular neighborhood in Vancouver and practice taking photos. There are a variety of skill levels and it's a great collaborative and social environment to improve photography skills. So catch up with us on twitter by looking for the hashtag #604photowalk.

You can check out some of our shots here: http://604photowalk.tumblr.com/

The city is not serious about transit oriented development.

The entrance doesn't need to be big or grand. If I recall correctly from the design plans, ramps lead down to the floor below which would connect to a future skytrain line.

An oldie from 2003. The hottest summer ever. The parks along english bay were so dry that the grass was flaking off. I must have chosen a lucky year when I moved there for 4 months (between semesters)!

I will love Vancouver forever because of that summer.

The reason why I am posting this is that maybe someone else has a shot from this location in 2012? So many changes! If you have seen one, can you quote it and repost?

Thanks from Calgary.

Yup, I do that too. I can't very well text my family a photo from my DSLR too easily...

Thanks! The view was indeed superb even on a rainy day. I have also a photo towards south from that same apartment and you can find it behind the link (http://vuosiamaailmalla.fi/blog/?p=621).

That sub-penthouse apartment in Capitol Residences was very nice, but too bad they had wasted the ~1200sqf into a long corridor ending up having rather small rooms. Also the balcony was stamp-size.

We ended up with a much nicer apartment, from which I will surely post some panoramas one day. ;)

Were it not for the Air Canada hangar hulking in the background, this view from Marpole over the North Arm could be from the 1870's:

I took a similar "looks like the middle of nowhere" shot recently

http://i.imgur.com/m1AeX.jpg

SFU is on the top of that hill, Barnet highway is hidden in the trees, and of course there are dozens of kilometres of suburbia in every direction just behind what is visible.

But from Cates Park you feel like you're in serene wilderness.

I don't re-post photos very often, but I thought this one was pretty awesome - from the Canadian Skyline thread (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?p=5889679&posted=1#post5889679).
I wish there were more photos posted of the skyline taken in the west end.

:previous:

Would a makeover help change that? (Im 'referring to the Royal Centre, Burrard at Gergia, if that's what you mean).
The Bank of Montreal Tower in Toronto was made over a few years back, as is known, and looks all the better for it.
Could we make over the RBC Royal Centre, and the Hyatt, too?
Or not.

I am sure this painting has been featured here before, but I really like it. Any idea what is the plan with the ugly building itself?

No, it's not. The Cecil was already demolished for the most part. This is the building beside it, which still stands.

I believe they are going to remove the loops from Granville to Pacific and then redevelop that area.

http://www.vancitybuzz.com/image.php?src=http://www.vancitybuzz.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Granville-Loops-Rendering-1024x526.jpg&w=650&a=t
Source:http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2012/08/future-of-granville-loops/

I found this picture on Vancitybuzz but I don't know where they got it. The way the Maddox is highlighted maybe it was from some promotional material for the Maddox about the future area.

Edit: This page has a bit more info and better picture of where the loops are. http://www.straight.com/article-711821/vancouver/disappearance-granville-loops-will-transform-north-end-downtown

i guess i'm being a downer, but the stadium looks garish to me. a few narrow sight lines between towers is enough of a dose for me.
