View Full Version : 2 Renditions of Future Boise Skyline + Predictions

Hello!

It's been a slow time for good news, it seems like, so I thought I'd try and pump all y'all Boise forumers with my new rendition of the Boise Skyline in 2010 and 2035. I hope Sawtooth doesn't get annoyed with me for using his photos, but I'll be flat out honest...he has best skyline photos on the internet that I can use! Anyway, I admit I didn't spend as much time as I could've, the buildings are very simple, so I did a "cut-out" effect on photoshop to make it look as if it was advertising downtown, and to make it look halfway realistic.

My predictions for Boise 2035:

-Boise Place will still be tallest
-Boise City Population will be slightly over 275,000
-Boise Metro Population will be approx. 1,500,000
-While not all are shown here, I predict we'll see at least 15 buldings over 10 floors, 5-6 buildings over 15 floors, 4-5 buildings over 20 floors, and 2-3 buildings over 25 floors, with a possible 1-2 over 30 floors.
-East Downtown will continue to thrive
-Several new "Bodo"-like districts
-Surpass Albuquerque, Buffalo, Colorado Springs, Rochester, Dayton, Albany, Tulsa, and New Orleans in MSA population.
-Cities we'll possibly, though unlikely surpass in MSA population: Tucson, Memphis, Austin, Milwaukee, Columbus, Cleveland (due to population decrease), and Pittsburgh (due to population decrease)
-Airport will be approx. same size as Milwaukee, Austin, San Antonio, Hartford, Portland (unlikely), Salt Lake City (unlikely), and/or Baltimore (unlikely)

Feel free to post your predictions as well!

Anthony

I feel like if our population actually does climb that high by then we'll either have a taller than Boise Place or at least a few more similarly sized towers so it doesn't stick out so much.

recent developments (no pun intended) have turned me into an eternal pessimist. while i'd love to see the skyline rapidly become what you've rendered in your 2035 image, i'm not convinced that we'll ever see capitol plaza get off the ground (pun intended), and i'm not sure where there will be opportunities in the center core for new development once BP is built, if it is built.

for instance, could anything on block 44 (between 8th and 9th, idaho and bannock) be torn down for a new building, or are those structures historic? would anything ever be built on the small parking space north of the Idanha? could anything of any decent height be built on the parking lot east of the Boise Cascade building, or would nimbys complain that it's too close to hyde park, and should be limited to 3 floors?

dunno. i hope, i wish, i pray, but i digress.

The lot behind the Record Exchange and Royal Plaza is perfect for a tower as is some of the blocks behind the Banner Bank. The Central Core could expand west past the Idaho Power building ---that whole area would be perfect for new towers.

I completely agree about the lot behind the record exchange. That's a perfect lot for something tall.

I like the watercolor renditions. I hope Boise gets a new tallest after all!

I like your renditions. Boise has a lot of momentum and it seems like that momentum is picking up even more, and Boise is one of the "in Vogue" cities so growth will be a part of your city for a long time to come. Hell, here in Salt Lake we get frustrated too with slow developments.

A 2035 Boise skyline looks very cool. Hope you guys get all your new towers.

Very interesting. I have lived in Boise for 2 years now and am amazed at how fast this place is growing and am excited that downtown is becoming a popular area for new developments.

Those are pretty sweat, I wish we had a Phoenix forumer w/ those kind of photoshop skills. As far as passing Tucson in population, that seems tough, Tucson is growing like crazy. Is Boise currently outpacing Tucson in growth?

EDIT: Also, I've never been to Boise, whats that large pole in the foreground?

That's a flag pole which sits in the beautiful Platt Gardens along the front of the Boise Train Depot as shown below which is where the picture was taken.

Nice work BoiseAirport, it is all good that you used these photos, I don't mind.
I hope the 2010 image becomes reality.

Oh yes, that flag pole... I will have to stand in front of it next time:cool:

Nice aerials of the depot which you posted Boizean. It almost looks like a cathedral.

Great job!! Wow!! Boise Place really is going to stand out isn't it?!?! I hope we can match or come close to matching the height of it in the somewhat near future. Also, I LOVE the idea about taking downtown more West, towards the Channel 2 building. I think there are many lots of potential that way.

They're just googled images (I no longer have a digital camera). Didn't mean to imply they were mine...sorry about that.

It's an historic treasure for sure.

Great work BoiseAirport - nice thread.

I love the depot. I wish I would have had a camera the time I was able to spend some time up in the tower portion. Best place to view Boise and the foothills.
