I like how they squeezed the ballpark into the neighborhood. This has become more common in stadiums, but SD looks to have done it nearly flawlessly.

I also like the following of the rapid transit line through the city. lol

SD looks to be building some impressive density into their core, and it really does look like a SimCity.

Wow! Amazing photos are the expectation in your threads, but this one really stands out. I enjoyed this more than any other aerial tour you've done.

This is my favorite photo of the series, because we really don't get to see many views of the skyline from this direction:
http://photos.imageevent.com/kcphotos/sandiego/sandiego_5452.jpg

The typical views from across the harbor (either from Coronado or from one of the "islands" in the other direction) show only a part of the skyline, because the buildings are definitely not laid out in a line as they appear to be in most of those types of shots. This view shows the depth that exists in the skyline.

I'll be down there next weekend, I'm definitely looking forward to going back to my favorite city! (Denver's my #2, Boston's my #3, go figure! :))

I'm actually staying at the Hotel Solamar, which can be seen in the middle of the far right of the photo Charles Hatfield quoted... ;) It looks much different down there even from when I was out there the last time, which was New Year's weekend of 2005/2006...

Not the best view, but you can see that there wasn't much there a couple years ago except for the Marriott and the beginning of Park Loft.

Exporting the 'Vancouver style' (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...ry/RealEstate/)

CCDC officials came up from San Diego to tour Yaletown and Downtown South tower/townhouse combos, and were equally taken by Bosa's Portico project. According to Mr. Amanat, "the Americans were very impressed with what was happening in Vancouver — they told us: 'This is what we want.'" Accordingly, Bosa was awarded one of the first contracts, on a street with another Vancouver connection — the Arthur Erickson-designed San Diego Convention Centre a few blocks away. Opening earlier this decade, what is now called the Horizon was downtown San Diego's first downtown high rise residential tower in a dozen years, setting the pattern for subsequent development, including two further large projects nearby from Bosa, now under construction.

Great shots!! It is so freak'n urban compared to when I lived there. Some of the shots I thought I was looking at a foreign city...like some vaguely known port metropolis in New Zealand or South Afirca. Very cool.
I think San Diego is without a doubt America's best warm weather coastal city.

I don't get it? Anyway this has been a pretty legendary thread. Lets just hope San Diego can get some office towers going. The residential boom is kind of starting to take a breather for a moment. Lots of unsold units on the market right now. :(

^^ Yeah it really is a must see russ. Personally I think it is really the only true "modern" new park that has been built. All other parks try to look "throwback and traditional" Petco does not. It doesn't have any of the brick with reds and greens all over the place.

Yes it does have brick with the Western Metal Supply building but that was its own building that was moved to be integrated into the park. So there is no "new brick" built in to the ballpark itself. The outside uses giant stone tiles and stucco.

It truely is a ballpark for the 21st century and not some copycat throwback to the old days.

Plus all of the new highrises encircling the park make it feel very modern no other ballpark has highrises so close to it as Petco. There are atleast 6/7 towers that have views directly into the park, so you can watch the game from balconies or roof top decks!!

Petco Park is, in a way, a throw back type of ballpark. It takes its design cue from Mayan ruins. Does that count?

Although the urban scene in SD is growing, the San Diego lifestyle isnt about being urban like LA.....its a kinder gentler more laid back LA.
