What a great, dense, neighborood, judging by the photos above. A real mix of old row homes, 1920's highrises, and everything inbetween - all the things that make a vibrant urban area.

This is still site prep (especially b/c this hole is going to take another 5 months till its finished). Once they pour the concrete foundation, I think it could be moved to construction.

True, 10 Ritt was a hole for a long while, but that was after the demolition of Rendelaub's Row. Once they staring actual foundation work, then it got going in earnest. 1706 is now in the foundation prep work stage. It's very close to the under construction stage.

Indeed. I spoke to one of the on-site work crew who informed me that the hole was about 20' deep and would be 40' deep when they got to the bottom. So they're half way there.

Technically, it is still in the site prep stage so until they start laying some sort of foundation, it's not under construction. Not to mention, the actual construction crews aren't on site now...just the guys who get to build one big hole.
It won't be long now though.

Those steel pipes in the ground are for the water that is below the water table to gather so it can be pump out to make the foundation dry, the further you go down the more possibility you have of hitting the water table. This may take awhile to do until the foundation is dry and solid enough to withstand the weight of the concrete base being laid on top of it.

when did they make a highrise proposal section...ughhh i almost feel it was made to spite the Philadelphia proposals......since we have alot of projects that just fall into the 200 -500 foot range.....I don't know i would call a hirise something thats like 100 to 350 tall...

Took me forever to find this subforum today as well. I thought it had been moved to the construction section or something like that. This is getting more and more confusing.
I think the big digging is done btw. I saw a number of surveyors a surveying yesterday. The good news about this whole subforum mess is that this project will be officially under construction very soon.

So this building is floating on top of Center City muck? I thought that skyscrapers stood on top of bedrock pilings...

I talked to the PM on site today who said that the foundation work would begin at the end of next week or early the following week at the latest.
Before the concrete pour, they have to lay all the rebar for the 6 foot deep mat of concrete they are going to put down. This will require over a 100 concrete trucks and will happen on a Saturday later this month.
Once anything major happens, I'll take some pics since I walk by this badboy every day on my horrible 10 minute walk to work :)
