Okay, so this is a list I compiled of all (I think) the buildings in Moncton that are 5 stories and up. I probably missed a couple...but when I find them Ill add them. I went home last weekend and took a few pictures (of buildings I couldnt find online)...and I took a lot while driving by lol...so some arent very good...ANYWAYS, here we go:

All these buildings combined = 237 stories lol
Total # of buildings over 5 stories = 33

Moncton will have another building over 5 stories soon, with the construction of the new mariott hotel downtown, which will be 7 stories

Wow great list

Obvioulsy, Blue cross center could have been 15 stories and more. I wonder if Moncton has a high-limit law ?

Blue cross wanted a building that was focussed more on beautiful archetecture than height, and the building has about twice the square footage of the assumption building (twice its height).

Oh and BTW Im going to try and make a list like this for Fredericton, it would be cool to see someone make one for Saint John and Halifax too, but those would probably take more time. Halifax I can imagine has quite a few tall buildings, and Im sure SJ has more than Moncton.

I think if you were to make one for Halifax, you'd have to make a list of buildings 10 or 15 stories and up. Theres probably hundreds of buildings 5 stories and over. On Emporis I think it lists about 119 buildings 12 stories and over. But I think this is a neat idea to compile a list like this. Im actually surprised it hasnt been done until now lol.

Wow! thats a lot! lol makes moncton look like a hick town, So yeah if a list were to be done for Halifax it would have to be like 10 stories and up or something.

If we included uptown historic buildings, Saint John has a advantage for sure. At this point, SJ is the real urban mind in New-Brunswick. However, Moncton/Dieppe are young cities with a incredible population increase and a huge publicity penetration as well. Moncton has a huge advantage over Saint John in retail too. On the whole, Moncton is more attractive than Saint John.

That Emporis Site is great by the way, I never even knew that existed lol...oh yeah and it lists 67 buildings in Halifax over 12 stories, maybe they are missing some?

... The retail in SJ is increasing at a faster rate than moncton.... Theres not many stores that Moncton has that SJ doesnt... Costco, Gap, and Princess Auto are the main ones we dont have.... and theres no Gap yet, because they cant secure corner locations in McAllister Place....
and Costco isnt that far away from happening...
Other than that... Moncton doesnt have much more, so i wouldnt say they have a HUGE advantage...../

I should do one for SJ.... I mean right away it would be easy for me since I live on the 10th floor of my apt building in Saint John... and directly across from my living room window is the Irving Tower at 12 stories and from my balcony you can see the top of the Admiral Beatty Complex at 8 stories

That would be great, I mean even if you only post a few buildings then other people could add some too, after a while a complete list could be formed :)

Moncton has an advantage retail wise over SJ due to geographic location as well, besides the greater SJ area not that many people travel to SJ to shop, because Fredericton draws more people from north west of the province, and moncton draws from the entire east side, and a lot of places in NS, aswell as all of PEI (they come for plastic pop bottles lol!) so with all that you can see why Moncton has TWO wal-marts (the newest being the biggest east of Quebec), home depot, costco, princess auto, sears home, new future shop, a possible best buy in the future, and the largest mall in the maritimes (i think) if not its close.

Yeah, I can think of more buildings not listed on that list. And It says 111 high rise buildings on the main page, but for some reason only lists 67 completed and 75 total in the listings.

The largest Wal Mart east of Quebec? Wow, I thought the one at Dartmouth Crossing would take that title. And as far as Malls go, I know the 4 major malls in the maritimes are Mic Mac Mall, McAllister Place, Halifax Shopping Centre, and Champlain Place. What I do know for a fact is Mic Mac Mall is the largest in the maritimes, not sure how they fall in after that though.

But on another note, I think it is obvious that Moncton is superior to Saint John as far as retail goes, althought in all honesty I really dont think there is a huge difference as to the types of stores offered.

This idea started a while back on the ill-fated Highrise Canada forum. It's a good idea for sure, I'm just glad I don't have to try to get the whole maritimes this time. :)

Good list Matt. I'll probably do one for Sydney eventually, it'll be short and sweet. :P I probably won't be able to find much in the way of structural heights or floor area easily, nor the dates of construction. I'll probably have to rip what information I can other than "this is where it is and how many floors it has" off Emporis. :)

Didn't quite make the list...

Mayflower Mall, Sydney NS
72 stores (under development into 85 under one roof, 91 when annex added)
GLA: 416,327 sqft (+18,000 sqft in annex...also not sure if that's before or after redevelopment and expansion of old Wal-Mart store).

The Wikipedia listing says "retail space". That would presumably exclude attached office space.

I would imagine that the Eaton Centre would have far more than 1.6 million square feet if the office towers above were included.
