Those of you that have National Geographic watch "Frontiers of Construction" at 7 am Pacific Tuesday morning as they will be discussing the collapse of the dome on the Silverdome and the engineering behind fabric roofs.

They show how dome rips can be patched using heat sealing with irons at 750 deg C. The view of the Silverdome collapse was quite something. It looks like most of the roof gave way. I'm not sure if the Silverdome used the two layer design BC Place uses where hot air can be blown between the layers to melt the snow on top.

Also some good discussion of the fabric dome of Denver's airport and how analysis of meterological records of Denver from the past 100 years had to be used in its design to guesstimate snow load from a major storm. When was Stapleton Airport discontinued?

anyways, a good show so all you Dome Supporters like me set your VCRs/DVD recorders! National Geographic channel "Frontiers of Construction" 7 am Tuesday morning, one hour.

Is FoC still making new episodes or is this a repeat? I love that show.

They moved it from the generally subscribed Discovery Channel to the more expensive National Geographic Channel - what you see on Discovery are old repeats - new ones are on National Geographic (which I don't get)

I haven't seen a new episode in a while, unfortunately. I think they've ended production, but I don't know for sure.

I have to get National Geographic. There is so much good stuff on that channel. :) It's inhumane to stick it up in the digital range!

I haven't yet seen one in HD on the National Geographic channel. Great show though.
