View Full Version : Highlands, North Carolina - The perfect mountain village!

Have you ever wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and just relax in a quaint small village for awhile, breathing the fresh clean mountain air and perhaps even taking time to explore the beauty and adventure of nature at its best? If so, I cannot recommend any place better than Highlands, North Carolina, which coincidentally happens to be my personal favorite nearby mountain village getaway. This small fine arts and crafts village is comfortably perched at an elevation of 4,118 feet above sea level, and boasts some of the most spectacular scenery found anywhere in the United States.

Here are a few photos I shot this past Fall. Enjoy! :)

How far from Boone?

I am not exactly sure of the distance from Boone. This village is near Franklin, if that is any help. You may be able to find out by checking the chamber of commerce website (http://www.highlandschamber.org/).

why in the hell was this moved? it looks like photos of a city (albeit a tiny one) to me (unless it's just an all-enclosed resort...i don't know if it is or isn't,) or is city photos really just for images found from other sites of big cities with tall skyscrapers? (and if it is, how about moving all the photos of small PA and OH towns into general photography, too.)

p.s. nice photos and look at this place. i've never been there, looks nice.

Thank you LSyd. I was wondering the same thing (why this thread had been moved), but it really doesn't matter to me in the end.

This is an actual town, with great dining, shopping, and sleeping options, among other things. It is also the highest incorporated U.S. town east of the Mississippi River.

It's a difficult call, I suppose. Highlands IS an incorporated town... but it is only 909 full-time residents... which is considerably lower than most PA towns some of us post. It's basically a mountain tourist destination.

i'm still calling hypocrisy (on someone's part.)

p.s. PA/OH used only as examples, no insults intended.

Nice pics!
Looks a wee bit like Blowing Rock, NC.
I grew up in Western NC so it's always good to see some lovely pics! :)
