My spouse has been offered a job in Kamloops. The most affordable housing is in North Kamloops. I have done some research and discovered that North Kamloops has more crime then other areas. How bad is N. Kamloops ?
Is it comparable to a bad neighbourhood in Regina ?

I would assume that it can't be that bad... Kamloomps is a relatively small city anyways. I've spent alot of time there, and never really had a problem whatsoever, or heard of much crme.

From my knowledge, most of the crime is drug pushing, but I think most of that is done through Vernon - a (very) nice city just south of Kamloops.

Good luck... you'll be in desert country now :)

It's probably comparable to a bad area in a city of 50 000. It won't be that bad, just a few crack or meth heads

I've always liked Kamloops in terms of its strategic location (freeway to Vancouver), semi-arid, sunny climate, rivers, beaches, and valley terrain.

I've also seen the stats you refer to regarding crime rates in North Kamloops but I probably would concur with the general response of previous posters.

What drew my attention this evening was an expose on the city by BC's top-rated Global News (formerly BCTV) regarding its very low unemployment rate.

Apparently, the current labour market employs around 40,000 people. More interestingly, over the next five years another approximate 70,000 labour positions will need to be filled.

Good to see Kamloops on its way to becoming a major growth centre.

What's the biggest cause of job growth there, anyone know?

^ I wouldn't be surprised if it was the new collage turned university. There is so much construction going on there. My dad lives just down he road from the uni, and you can see 2 huge (for kamloops) new what i assume are dorm towers going up.

there was a story on the news i think it was in kamloops - but it was somewhere up that way

some guy had to move his car - he either witnessed some thugs doing something and shouted at them or he was their victim

either he was attacked by two guys roaming the area - he ended up with a badly beaten face

they said such crime wasn't normal but was on the rise

Yes, done some research and Kamloops Indian Band is doing very well for itself. Thanks in part to the relationship with the city. The plan is to cover 80% of the city with wireless coverage, a very forward thinking city.
