I posted this thread in the "other" forum. I want to share a couple of pics I took yesterday (Fri) afternoon of our yard in SW MPLS after I spent about an hour shoveling out from the last few storms we've had. Show me what your city looks like.

Here are some pics of Des Moines, and Iowa. They got slammed last Saturday in a storm that basically dismantled a large part of the electrical system. Huge transmission towers fell, feeder lines, local lines, everything. Something like 250,000 homes lost power.

Then a little over 4 days later, as they were trying to get things back up and running, a massive blizzard with 50mph winds spun over the west, central and north side of the state for hours and hours. The state had to shut down a large part of it's interstates, including I80, I35 and I29. Interstate 80 was closed for over two days, and is finally reopening. I was reading about the thousands of trucks and cars that have been piling up in Des Moines for days now trying to get through. They started clogging up all the local interstates and roads, offramps. Between the interstates and over a dozen state/federeal highway closures, many grocery stores are starting to run low on food since they get no shipments. The Gov had declared a Disaster Area for the east half of the state after the first storm, and had to declare a disaster for the entire state after the second one. People who were without power across the state were asked to leave their homes and go to family/friends or numerous shelters as the second storm approched. The new storm also caused more power outages and damage as well. Musta been a mess!

The national guard was called in to rescue around 100 people trapped in their cars on the shut down interstates. Many areas saw drifts up to 10 feet tall due to the extreme blowing.
