Nope, the height is clearly listed at 325.63 feet. The number you gave for the height is listed as the frontage on 3rd Avenue. The height seems low for a 32-story office building, but that's all we have. Perhaps, it's a main roof height. Regardless, the 400+ number is not the height.

I will re-check. Certainly 408ft is not Third Ave frontage since mid-town Manhattan blocks are typically 200ft. wide and this block is no exception. I am sure that 408 ft is the total height of the building(office and post office combined). This building is just a shade lower than the adjacent Lipstick building which is ~453 ft. Again I will re-check the data.

Ok, so it's not the frontage, but the number you give is nowhere near the part of the document that says "height". In fact, the numbers say East and West, and then it shows the North and South frontage at 200.96 feet. It really does look to be width and depth of the property described by these numbers, or a block measurement.

Ok! I think I know what going on here! You are correct that the documented height is 325.63ft for the COO. Which I believe is correct for the commercial portion of the building, but not sure if it includes the Post Office or the mechanical portion. COO are notorious for not document the true height, only the occupied portion.

I was looking at the following info:

http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/JobDetailsServlet?requestid=3&allisn=0001319415

But sent the COO instead, my mistake.

Now the question is, can the 408ft be closer to the true height, as documented in many of the permits. Or was it confused with the 408 ft north & south frontage. I think it possible that the height is still 408ft.

So I will pursue other data to prove my suspicions.

The frontage information can be confusing but the proper interpretation is
200.96 ft on east and west with 408ft on the 54th and 55th street north and south frontage typically all mid-town Manhattan blocks are 200 ft. on there eastern and western side, however, if you did not have that info. I could see where it is easy to misinterpret.

Cool, thanks. I could add the 408 feet as an estimate if you'd like that, for now.

That works for me! I confident that the 408ft height will hold.

New York Inside Guide also cite the 408ft figure for 909 Third Ave: http://a.1asphost.com/guide/database.html and I have pictures that will support this figure as an estimate.
