I'm pretty sure that is the right view and image, if anyone should know it would be Ctrl!

I'm maintaining my thought that its at the wrong angle, judging from the buildings around it...the one tip should point south and the other more west...the view that is there now would be similar to if it was viewed from the NE not from the N or NW as it looks in the picture

maybe i'm looking at it wrong is the break in the diagrid the tip or is it in the middle of the back of the building?

I think you're seeing it wrong, you can see the spine, and just barely see the west fingertip on CrtlAltDel's drawing, just like you will be able to when it's done.

These drawings aren't 100% accurate, it would take me to too long to try to be dead on accurate for everything. It's meant as merely an example, and for enjoyment.

Criticism is appreciated though, makes me try a little harder for the next renderings!

Like I said, the drawings are very good. Obviously, you've drawn some of the buildings yourself and pasted them into the skyline - and they look like real buildings.

Keep doing them, as we all look forward to your next one.

Man our skyline really does look like a city of metro or megalopolis size.
If we show this to regular people outside the country i bet they will think this is like Toronto or Chicago or San Francisco or something. Cities much much bigger than ours. We really are the king of skyline deception!! :righton:

I've put in every possible development that will likely happen within the next 20 years. Of course, some buildings are stand-ins, but it gives a fairly accurate view of what can be expected.

Wow, thanks everyone! The nice comments are much appreciated.

There are some things I could add to the rendering, and new developments will keep coming out. I always say I'll update the renderings, but I'll probably just wait and do another one from another angle, only better!

Caltrane I agree, the Bow completely dominates the skyline, especially from this angle.

I would love to attempt an Edmonton rendering for my brothers to the north, I just don't know where everything goes. Perhaps if I had a diagram or map.

Thanks Bo! I'm sending you the high res, and you can see Imperial is in there, as well as a few developments you probably can't see with this terribly low res image.

Edit: Wow, almost 50,000 views!! I probably account for 45,000 of those, but still that's awesome!

A very accurate representation of the Bow.

Maybe I'm just being nitpicky - as the Bow in this Picture looks great - but the Bow isn't accurate in that there are 12 "sections" of floors between the horizontals in the diagrid shown. There will be only 10 - with six floors in each section. The top section has two double high mechanical floors, so only 4 floors in that section, and the bottom section has only 5 floors, as the ground floor and the mezzanine floor together take up the spaace of 3 floors.

This brings the total number of floors to the 57 total. (I know the press releases and the info on this site say 58 - but perhaps they don't count the 13th floor or something - there are only 57)

The arena is based on the Sprint Centre in Kansas City. Something modern, and fairly simple.

YNAT: Correct, the Bow isn't 100% accurate, but neither is any other building in the rendering. It would take simply to long to get every building exactly how it's supposed to look. It does give me something to strive for for the next doodle however.

A lot of city planners I've talked to say East Village will be realistically completed in 15 - 20 years, but who knows? With the economic conditions I doubt we'll be seeing the next phases in multi phase projects going forward in in months(or years) to come.

Wooster
Feb 28, 2009, 3:11 PM
Large scale redevelopments like East Village always take longer than people thing. Battery Park City in New York, a similar type effort has taken the better part of 30 years to become more or less fully realized. Bridges has also taken about twice as long as people thought it would at the onset of the project.

That said, there will be lots of activity in EV in the years to come. CMLC has exactly the right approach. The timing will probably work out well for them as they will be finishing remediation and streetscaping (in down times when costs are lower) and starting to sell land by the end of this year or early next year. A year or so of design and approvals of projects before marketing and they should be coming on stream at just about the right time (18-24 months from now).

Imagine if developers were trying to market projects right now - it would be going nowhere.

Man I wish Calgary could break the 70 storey barrier (or even the 60 storey):(

I don't get too broken up over it...I've always considered 50 storeys to be the line that separates the men from the boys. After that it's all about the quality - and I'd take a 58-storey Bow over a 72-storey FCP or a 68-storey Scotia Plaza any day.

Besides, I'm from Ottawa, and compared to there Calgary is freaking Coruscant.

bob1954
Apr 10, 2009, 7:30 AM
Well there's nothing wrong with the 58 story Bow (as bulky as it is), but what the hell is wrong with a 60-70 story building or 2 or 3? Answer; Nothing wrong with it at all!

Actually, Shangri-la is 13 ft taller than Bankers Hall, but I agree with your point.

Well - if you include SRL's "spire" which doesn't appear on the diagrams that I could see.
Roof height they are almost exactly equal (SRL=196.9m & BH=197m).
According to this website anyway.:)

For the record I also agree with Doug's point about the actual height being more important than the # of storeys.

I've got a question... On Wikipedia it lists the Alberta Boots site, as a high-rise proposal but I've never heard of the project or seen any renderings... Could somebody clear this up? Thanks...

It is listed on page one of the construction thread under "Mixed Use Projects".

Calgary City News' Twitter Feed (http://twitter.com/CalgaryCityNews) is using a background image that looks familiar. Is that CtrlAltDel's work? Do they have permission?
