A shot from the south, looking north. 225 Sixth, the new proposed tallest is there, with a few others:

A closer view from the south, with the 6 biggest towers in the city:

A view from the North, overlooking the Bow.

Just for fun, what it could look like looking up at 225 Sixth complex, Suncor and the Bow.

Very nicely done! I have saved all of them onto my hardrive it will be a good way to compare how things will actually look once alot of these projects are done.
Keep it up! That Tower pano is just awesome, must of taken a good chunk of your time to get it all set and done.

Mar 19, 2007, 3:56 AM
CrtlAltDel, you've really outdone yourself this time. This photo is beyond belief. How long did it take you to do that, and where did you get the panoramic from?
What's the building next to Riverfront Pointe? Are the Kai Towers in there? I think I see them in there, but it looks like one tower. 999? hehehe
It's amazing to compare the downtown core, and the beltline panning 360degrees.. it really puts a dampening on the east end though.. what could have been.. But I guess redevelopment in the East Village will have lots of potential though.

Mar 19, 2007, 4:11 AM
Thanks! It's not the cleanest stitch job, but it gets the point across. It's probably about 15 pictures from the net combined, and I do it in most of my free time. Ask IntoTheWest how easy it is to get obsessed with this stuff!
Kai is in there, but it's so small and obscured I think it looks like one.
The Opus towers are in there, but they're just a creation until the official renderings are released. I was going to do the same for Exchange, but it would be so much bigger and obvious.

Thanks for the nice compliments. It'll be interesting years from now to compare. I'm kinda curious as to what rendering(s) people like more. Looking over Stampede from the south has definitely gotten the most exposure, as well as the last picture.
I also created these, as a "what could have been" for Encana. 1 is the original proposed height of 68 storeys(?), 2 and 3 are slightly altered roofs. Personally I prefer the original proposed height, but I'll take what we have now in a pinch.
http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/8703/encanacomparobm8.jpg
And this is looking down Centre Street, with the original proposed height and continued framework on top to increase height (some people had mentioned it had originally had some design elements on top).

These are just for fun.

Rhat third renderring of the Bow with the framework, actually looks neet, looks like it belongs on the building! Plus it gives alittle more heght without throwing off any of those terrible shadows!! They could actually do that type of "top" another 40-50' and would be pretty impressive!

Wow , Calgary is going to look sweet.
BTW CrtlAltDel, what would it take for you to do a Vancouver rendering?:D
CtrlAltDel
Mar 21, 2007, 7:55 PM
Updated the Pano with Exchange, based on the 3 tower working sketch.
Johnny, I'm slowly chipping away it.
Vanman, I attempted a Vancouver rendering, but I had no idea where these buildings went. I'd love to do it, but Boris and ZZebian made excellent references for the Calgary projects, so it was easy. I'm interested in Edmonton too, but again I don't have a map. And Toronto has their own awesome renderers. ;)
BTW, that Centre Street shot has bits of Palliser and Livingston, as well as a woman on the bridge looking at EnCana.
I seriously have way too much time on my hands...

Very Nice How much?
Super impressive. I see that you now have Arriva on both ends of the Pano, nice ones. What is the proposed height of the Exchange? It is just massive, I don't suppose that will start anytime soon.

Mar 21, 2007, 8:06 PM
Wow that third rendering of the Bow looks much better than the current plans in my opinoin... It seems much more creative, and the first thing I thought when I looked at it was a saddle, very representive of the history of Calgary.
Edit: I second vanman's question, what would it take for you to do a quality Vancouver representation... its been a while since someone did one, and I have no photoshop skill whatsoever
IntotheWest
Mar 21, 2007, 8:06 PM
Awesome work CtrlAltDel - always, always, appreciated here! And yes, I know how much effort it takes to do this - which makes it even more impressive!
EDIT: Yes, I agree that the extended framework on top of the Bow would've been quite cool...is this too difficult to do in Calgary for some reason? I thought there was at least one other Foster building that did do this?

BTW, that Centre Street shot has bits of Palliser and Livingston, as well as a woman on the bridge looking at EnCana.
I seriously have way too much time on my hands...
I also think the cars in that shot aren't real (yet); the leftmost one looks suspicously like this concept car shaped like a fish that I saw mentioned on Discovery a while back. Nice touch if so!
I wish more talented people had too much time on their hands.
Continuing the observations, some of these pics have been circulating through the office spam lately. I've even been sent some from colleagues at other companies who I hardly ever talk to, but know that I keep an eye on development. I don't have the heart to email back "yeah, um, I saw them 3 months ago when the original artist posted them to a forum I hang out on". :D

Are the Union Square buildings going to be lined up on 1st or 13th? It looks like they are pouring piles along 13th, besides there definitely isn't room for 2 buildings to go right beside the Crazy Horse.
EDIT: nevermind, looking at the Union website I see that the buildings will straddle the Crazy Horse.

Hey, CtrlAltDel, what's the new towers in your pano shot? (I know, I know, I'm kinda behind...)
I'm really happy for Calgary that their getting all this construction but all I jhope is that with all this office construction that residential willl happen as well. Also I hope Calgary won't do the same mistakes as Toronto in the early 90's. Calgary needs to make sure that they don't over stock the office market with to much space and run up the vacancy rate in to the 20+% like Toronto did!
Calgarian
Mar 24, 2007, 1:51 AM
Well I think our vacancy rate is hovering around 0.5% right now, so we will need a LOT of buildings to do that.

ctown, the new towers in that pano are based on the 3 tower sketch of the Exchange, possibly ~60 floors. When the real renderings are released I will replace it. It just kind of gives an idea of how much the south view could be blocked from the tower.

It has actually been a little over a year. The design work on a project like this takes a couple years to get right so the DP can be applied for and released in short order. The designers are working with the city, the client, and the community to ensure that the design will satisfy everybody, and that there will be no snags once they are ready to go. The DP is underway i believe, and should be in at the city this summer (i hope anyway).

The wind won't change much, but the large problem would be the fact that it is one large sunless area; so it would be safe to assume that it's gonna get pretty cold in the winter around there.

We have vacancy in our office buildings? One would think that since all the boom in boomtown, we would find ourselves ridiculously short on any type of vacant space...
We have done a few firsts at our oil/energy service company lately, delivered jobs we have had to do to apartment rooms downtown.. So far I have seen at least 4 of the smaller startups with under 5 people and such working out of apartments downtown because they cant find any office space/cheap enough office space. I never realized it was getting that bad.
