Bayside at the Embarcadero is a 36-story condominium tower at the southeast corner of Pacific Highway and Ash Street. Construction began in November 2006.

Anyone remember this one, which is supposed to be behind Bayside?
It's at the corner of Kettner/Ash

According to the architect's website http://www.amanatarchitect.com/ash.html, it's 368' tall, but it's since grown to 395', according to Emporis.

I always thought the standard rendering was a little vanilla, but I'm really liking the side view. I'm glad that it has grown a little taller too. :)

Yeah, I was going to say -- even with the height increase, this thing still isn't going to be as tall as its neighbors.

Sorry for the 370ft error.
Well I'm glad they won't all be the same height even if that means 1 has to be shorter. The Grande is great, but another building of the same height next to it would look like a wall. (starts to think of hyatt...lol)
I'm just being funny though, I don't care if the bay is walled off or not, as long as there's street access. Places were people can congregate will follow. The Hyatt and Marriott are different (bad) because they have total frontage. Although it's not popular, I welcome the Manchester project and like the designs. I wish we'd get more post-modern buildings like that.

I've got to disagree with this statement in the strongest possible way. We need to preserve our bay views and open space near the water. In my opinion, the walled off area at the Convention Center, Marriott and Manchester Hyatt is an abomination and shows a real lack of foresight by city "leadership". We can't afford to make the same mistake again.

^they should turn the entire backside of the convention center into a long park somehow, instead of that access street...which i know is obviously needed for events...but just somehow...like put it underground somehow, and add some small restaurants back there and a nice sculpted pathway with art and views of Coronado and the bridge

Yes, weve discussed this in length and i believe everyone agrees with what youve said. Its important because its a pain in the ass to get to the back side of the converntion center and the hyatts. esp on foot. and i couldnt even imagine what it would be like opened up.

i think they need to open up more path ways to the back first before they start putting in parks. whats the point if they are impossible to get to?

By "Manchester" project, I think he's talking about NBC. While its design might not be popular with everyone, I think we can agree that it does its best to maintain view corridors.
(I like NBC's design too, btw. I just wish the taller buildings were taller.)

Thank you eburess... I think my position has been misrepresented.
As I said, the Hyatt and Marriott aren't acceptable in my opinion because they rob the public of bay-side frontage. However, roads and sidewalks will enable people to walk past the big scary Manchester development and enjoy the bay. Using land two blocks in front of the tallest buildings in the city is not depriving the public of anything as far as view is concerned. How low does everyone think they need to be to "not wall off the bay?". The convention center is the equivalent of 5 floors and it walls off the bay like its it's job! Height isn't a factor and neither is width, because you will be confined to the street anyway. But the point is that there IS a street. If anyone wants to argue about access to the bay, how about arguing to get more streets to go through?

The argument against the convention center and Hyatt projects is that they block street-level view corridors. I.E., if you're standing on the street, you can't see the water from downtown. In that sense, they do wall off the bay.
Frankly, as infeasible as it may be, I hope the older Hyatt tower eventually gets knocked down and that there is a way to cut a path through the middle of the convention center (where that front-to-back walkway/staircase is now) opening up the view corridors.
