This is my second and final part of my Bay Area series and of course it would not be complete by not stopping in the City of Bay Windows. As many times I have visited the city I have never came to the conclusion that it is my favorite city in the US. I can say that it is now after NYC without any hesitation. The city is an absolute b**** to drive in and I love it for that. Here is the tour.

^^^He's boasting. It's cool and damp more like 9+ months of the year. It's just that in the "summer" it doesn't rain and the dampness comes in form of mist and "low clouds" which some would call fog.
Not sure what "rows of apartment buildings" you are referring to, someone123, but you can see what SF rents are like at http://www.rent-sf.com/avg_rent.html . Many of the pictures were taken in the Tenderloin (called "downtown" in the list), some in the Haight and some in North Beach . But "downtown and North Beach have some pretty pricey units dragging up the averages so I'd figure on maybe $1000-$1200 per month in the Tenderloin, more like $1800 in North Beach and go with the figure given of $1600 in the Haight for a 1 bedroom. Now, of course, all sorts of people are going to tell me how wrong I am and I may be, but at least then you'll have your answer.

You probably understand that part of the reason for parking that way is to avoid the issue of cars rolling down the hill, and in that regard you should be aware that it's the law here that when you parallel park you have to "curb" your front wheels. But, of course, the really hard part for some of us with a few years on us is opening that driver's side door when it's on the uphill side of the car. You don't realize how heavy a car door is until you've done this.
Wow. A beautiful and vibrant city. Great photos.

you could always find "good" deals renting 2bdr in-laws around sunset/ingleside while splitting rent with a roomie. if you want to live near haight, inner sunset's a cheaper alternative.

WOW. There is a reason why I wanted to wait and see how these photos turned out on a photo thread vs your camera. What a great eye you have sir. I especially love the last pic. Really capitalizes what is the "main street" of San Francisco. Great pics and again it was nice showing you around and your right the city is tough getting around in some parts by car. Part of the reason why I sold mine 2 months ago.
BTinSF, you can still find places cheaper, although still not cheap, than what those listings say although they claim that is the average price. I have an unpretentious but comfortable studio in North Beach for 1198/month. I say it is better than what a neighbor is paying for $400 more. With my trips to Oakland, I may have to jump ship. ;)

The comparison with Boston has always seemed strange to me. SF is much different culturally and *feels* and looks a lot bigger and more urban and I'd add it's more lively or colorful to me.
Seattle on the other hand is too suburban (low-density in look and feel) and much less of a city than Boston, imo.

More or less. The "observation point" is on Twin Peaks which dominates the geographic center of town. To see the Pacific, you have to walk a small distance along the roadway that circles the hill near the top, but it's only a short walk and easy to do.

The Anti-Saloon League sign is actually the only signage for a modern-day "speakeasy" serving fandancy uber expensive artisanally crafted drinks (think 20 bucks a glass kinda place). They have no phone number, you have to make reservations online, and they give you a password that you have to say into an intercom for them to open the door for you. This is on the intersection of like Crackhead St and Cray Cray Avenue. The cucumber gimlet is *amazing*.

This is a quintessential San Francisco scene. A bay windowed building, a Muni bus with a San Francisco themed ad, a pole plastered with colorful bulletins, and a classic VW bug.
Great pics!!
It's missing the guy with his dick whipped out through his zipper pissing into the sidewalk while reading the Street Scene.
And the guy taking a fresh dump into the tree planters after eating Taco Bell handouts.

Love it. San Fran is easily my favourite American city...can't wait to return. Stayed at the Fairmont SF on Nob Hill, looking out towards Coit Tower - and stared out the window for hours :-)
Great pics too - the street life and colourful homes are excellent.
And are you guys really whining about the weather? ;-)

These are fantastic. I love the shots of the Huntington...that is the hotel I stay at when in town for Thanksgiving. San Francisco is my favorite city to visit and explore so I am glad I got to see such great photographs which capture exactly how I always picture the city: vibrant, dense, and colorful.

You actualy think this looks like NY? HAHAHAHAHA!!
Yeah I don't think it looks like NYC either other than maybe the density. Not enough taller buildings in this shot plus you won't find the beautiful Marin Headlands in the background of any NYC pic. :D

Some of these shots show how similar SF and Manhattan really are. Phenomenal set, WG.

Considering that "wowsers" shot has the Tenderloin in the foreground, tyler, you know those guys are in there somewhere. Be content.

6 months is that all? its always been cool and damp there no matter what time of year i go...but i love it :)
well done...excellent pictures!!!
It depends on what side of twin peaks you live on. The eastern side of the city gets over 220 days of sun a year. While the western side about 170.
I live near the Mission District and it is grey in the morning but then it burns off by 11am and the fog (our natural air-conditioning) rolls in around 6:30 - 7

You know I always thought as San Francisco as being one of my most favorite cities but I was just never sure if it was or not. Although now that I see these wonderful pics of it I'm sure that it is and ranks high on my list. I mean I have seen a lot of pics of it but never in such depth like this before. So thank you so much for showing us these.

The street scene pics bring it back home for me, being I was just there a couple weeks ago. Was staying at a hotel in the Union Square area, notice the pics of Union Square and vicinity. San Francisco is a great city for sure, will get back again.
