The purpose of this thread is to figure out where everyone is at right now, and if we have a significant number of people from the Rest of Alberta (ROA), being the areas outside of Edmonton and Calgary CMA's. To clarify, this is whether or not you consider yourself a forumer from that area. For example, CorporateWhore is in New York, but he may or may not consider himself a Calgary forumer.
A similar question for further clarification: What part of Alberta do you represent?

Yeah, I'm hoping it is not too confusing for people who have moved around though. For example, I consider myself to be from, or represent, Calgary even though I was born and partially raised in Edmonton. Such cases require a judgement call. Perhaps I should have worded the question differently.
In an ideal world, we would have around 100 votes for this poll, but I'm expecting only around a 50-60% participation rate (which I don't really understand, since voting in this kind of poll should be easy enough to do).

I think participation rates would be a bit higher, looking from the Sask-Man poll.

Crap, should have read the post first before voting. I thought it was 'where are you from', as in where were you originally from. Not where do you live now.
Currently in Calgary but not 'from' Calgary. Born in N Alberta and moved around a fair bit as a kid. Consider myself to be 'from' N Alberta.

That's my bad, not yours...
So would you say you 'represent' Calgary?
I should add this in: part of the reason for this poll is to see who currently on this forum is able to represent the rest of Alberta, to see if any sort of sticky would be feasible. Obviously, if there are no forumers keep the thread updated then it isn't really feasible.

I guess you could have done 2 polls: "Where were you born", and "where's home" (to deal with students, for example) ;)
I would seriously like to do a study on how many born and raised Calgarians there are in this city, because I've only met 3 out of the hundreds of people I know here. :haha:

I've met quite a few born and raised Calgarians and many transplanted ones. I know a lot of former Sakatchewaners (Saskatchewanites??) and former Maritimers who call Calgary home now.
My dad and his mum were both born and raised here (Grandma lived in the town of Forest Lawn!) but spent time living in other countries. I was born overseas but raised in Cochrane from a real young age. Guess that doesn't count as born and raised? Just raised, I guess...

Born in New Westminster, grew up in the Okanagan, went to Selkirk College, UBC then BCIT, graduated & worked in Vancouver for three years before being transferred to Calgary, then transferred to Edmonton in '04, where I've been since then. Own a house in Edmonton and 1/2 interest in a condo in d/t Calgary, as well as a chunk of remote-ish land S.E. BC, where I go when I need to unwind!

3 polls in my case:
1. where were you born
2. where do you live now
3. where do you consider yourself from
In my case I didn't even live in the town I was born in, and I don't consider myself to be from there (I grew up somewhere else).
I'd like to see the same study about born and raised Calgarians. In my highly unscientific polling I can tell you:
1. Out of the 5 people in my office, none were born in Calgary. Two of us were born in Alberta, 1 in Sask, and 2 are from the U.K.
2. On my hockey team (approx 16-17 guys), 3 are from Calgary. At least 3 are from Sask, 3 from Manitoba, 3 from Ontario. The rest are from various parts of Alberta (and all are north of Red Deer).
Based soley on that, less than 1/2 of these people are even from Alberta, let alone native Calgarians.
Calgary will always be home, but I'm from all over the place...
Born in Edmonton but only lived there for a few weeks before moving to Renton, WA (Seattle burb). My family has strong ties to Northen Alberta as my grandparents and great-grandparents were Northern Alberta homesteaders although all of them were born out of the country. Stayed there until age 4 and then went to Lloydminster. After livining there for a year, moved to Calgary. At age 9, moved to Plano, TX (Dallas burb). Stayed there for 2 years and then went back to Calgary. Graduated high school a 16 and moved to Toronto/London, ON (went to UWO, but worked in Toronto on weekends and days off). After 2 years there, moved to Edmonton for a year and a half to finish undergrad degree. Then moved to Vancouver to start first graduate degree at UBC. Only lasted there one semester and moved back to Edmonton. Stayed there for 3.5 year to complete two masters degrees. Then in 1995, moved to Burnaby, BC (Vancouver burb) to work. Stayed there for a year and then went back to Calgary in 96. Left there in late 2001 for Redmond, WA (eastside Seattle burb). Moved out of there in mid 2005, when Maria got a job a Hong Kong. I took the kids to Calgary for 6 months before we moved to Hong Kong as well in January of 2006.

Born in Grande Prairie, lived in Canberra and Sydney, Australia until I came back to Canada as a young kid in '75, then lived in GP and later, Edmonton. But I still spent quite a bit of time in GP until I went to NAIT in '91. Although now a full time resident of Edmonton for at least 14 years, I still have strong ties to GP, as some of my family still live there.

I didnt know you lived in New York.
What part of the city do you live in and do you also take pictures/construction updates to projects happening in Manhattan>?
Also Bonus, did you go to JFK yesterday to see the A380 Manatee?? :D :)
Oh and I represent Calgary. Born in South Korea I would represent Busan in the SSC threads but I only go there to look at construction/city pictures of my home city of Busan. Otherwise I was raised here and see myself as more of a canadian rather than a korean.

Born in Calgary ... lived the bulk of my life (so far) in SW Edmonton near the UofA... attended Scona Comp HS and graduated from the UofA ... too many winters in the snow and cold so about 7 years ago traded for the rain and cool of the Sunshine Coast, BC. Bottom line ... fairly active forumer on the Edmonton related threads but so so in terms of participation on the other Alberta threads ... BUT, despite now living in the Vancouver area I'm still an Oiler, Eskimos, and Golden Bear fan thru and thru

Actually, I used to hit it up for a meal after a day visiting various plants in the general area. The waitresses (they recently had this one CUTE Aussie gal) would often ask me if I'd been up working on the rigs. If you've ever seen me, you'd know how funny that is, but I guess they were being kind. I'm your stereotypical skinny IT geek.
