Interesting Facts/Records (in own words): Bad Dürrheim transmitter was built in 1951 by SWF as mediumwave transmitter for Southern Germany.
It worked in the AM band on 548 kHz with omnidirectional radiation and a transmission power of 100 kW and used as antenna a 120 metre tall guyed
mast radiator. After inaugauration of Bodenseesender in 1964, it was handed over to German Federal Post, which used it as transmitter for the radio programme "Deutschlandfunk".
However this program could be also well-received by Horgenzell transmitter, one decided to use its frequency for 2 transmission sites in other sites in Germany, where reception of "Deutschlandfunk"
was bad, after Waveplan of Geneva went in service on November 23rd 1978 ( there this frequency was declared for sites near Recklinghausen and Bayreuth. The facilities, which use its frequency today are
Thurnau transmitter and Nordkirchen transmitter).
As Bad Dürrheim transmitter had therefore no frequency allocation after inaugauration of Waveplan of Geneva, it had to be shut down.
The mast was afterwards dismantled.
Today the building, in which the radiotechnical device was, is used as residential.

Bad Dürrheim is a well-known spa with a salt-works. There is a carnival museum at Bad Dürrheim. A few kilometres southeast of the site of the former transmitter, there is Donaueschingen airfield, an airfield for small planes ( http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flugplatz_Donaueschingen-Villingen ).
