Yes, happy to submit my photos. Will try for afternoon when the lighting is better.

A couple of weeks ago I spoke with one of the workers down on the street, probably a foreman, who told me that they're on a 3-floor per week rate.

A couple more floors have been added since last week. The silver-grey glass siding is still a few floors too low to be seen from this angle but should be appearing soon.

Agreed, I hate what this one does to the street wall. There really needs to be zoning to prevent this condition.

For a little perspective, here's a view from Times Square street level (Broadway between 43rd and 44th) looking northeast. The top of new building can be seen emerging from the cluster on the next block.

Filler? LOL! Do you really see a need for more FILLER in times square? I don't. The place is hyper dense and I'd prefer a nice low rise with a good design than this banal thing! On the other hand, more tourist dollars for the city.

You're right though, the place is full of boring boxes anyway so this one is probably a cut above the fray.

But then again, it will make a ton of money in that location so I'm sure the developer is making the right decision for his bottom line!

Lowrise won't cut it in this part of town. Any sliver of land has to go up.

I've never understood why some highrise developments (e.g. like this one) are set back from the street level instead of building to the streetwall. Especially in already dense areas. IMO the exposed elements on the neighboring buildings looks awful and I feel creates a detriment to the overall aesthetics of the project. Another example of this that I can think of is Cassa which is also on West 45th.

for me a skyscraper is always good and it should be always high!

except its a ugly thing that destroys the skyline and the streetwall :sly:

skyscraper -> more traffic, more people, more skyline

thats my logic, understand?

This building has grown by 4 floors in 15 days which is a bit less than the 3-floor per week rate I was told they were working towards. Regardless, it seems like pretty good progress to me.

This one definitely has a larger height to WIDTH ratio than 432 Park Ave (then again so does every other building). I'm sure this could've gone a few hundred feet more along with a better design. But this is a hotel so completely different. If it were residential it would be close to 700-800 feet mark.

I can understand the complaints about the setback at the sidewalk and the interruption of the streetwall, but the glass doesn't look that bad to me. The blank walls on the side will be an eyesore, but that's the nature of that site, unfortunately.

That adjacent lowrise building could be a development site. Often they leave blank walls where another building may be built.

While blank walls generally suck, there's already a massive blank wall in the very photos that we are complaining about this being a blank wall. This stuff blends together once it's not an active construction site.

Blank walls are tolerable as long as they're finished/covered. I'm fine with this blank wall if they don't leave it unfinished concrete like they did over on that sliver tower on 8th Avenue.

NYC DOB lists at 600 ft. Doesn't mean the height hasn't changed, but I would go with DOB filings unless you hear from another direct, reliable source.

that concrete side is aweful i really hope they do something with it. Why did they choose to leave that one side bare concrete. Is there a small lot thats going to be developed right next to it or are they just cheap and trying to save money? forgive me if this has already been answered

I'm certainly no expert on this, but it's my guess that they won't leave the bare concrete exposed. Based on the artist rendering (see page 2 and 7 of this thread) it looks like there will be a panel treatment on the sides. I have a feeling that they're not installing the panels until after they top off to avoid damaging them with scaffolding and to attain a uniform installation. Again, just a "sounds good" guess.

I'm not going to be popular for this one, but they should totally extend the Times Square LED screen reaches by building an enormous one on the 7th Ave-facing side. I agree. Even though it's what the guy on the jobsite told me, I find it hard to believe they would just paint the bare walls with all its surface flaws from concrete forms.

This rendering shows some decent treatment on the blank wall which looks like panels of some sort.

Ever since I was a kid, I've loved Times Square.

Just waking up Saturday Mornings and head down there from Brooklyn, when I would stay with my Auntie in the summertime. - Even when I was last downthere I just woke up, on my first night down, dreaming about heading down there.

I remember Times Square from back in the early 80's when I was just a little kid, was kinda dirty back then.

Horrendous decision there to leave the eye-sore wall even if painted. Such practices should be outlawed in planning. At least panel it over with something. This is a black eye on times square. It needs a long LED sign or something, but that would disturb the guests I'm sure.

Some shots from Friday, July 27. These will be the last pictures from me from this vantage point on the 25th floor of the Paramount Building at 1501 Broadway. Sadly, we are moving out of our offices this weekend.

Actually, not sure yet, but it's likely not going to be midtown. They were looking at something down in SoHo on Varick St. but nothing's final yet. In the meantime, I'll be working at home til we get it figured it out. It was a good run while it lasted. Never in a million years did I expect to battle the crowds of Times Square on a daily basis.

Looks like it's topped out- the top section looks like it only has 3-4 floors.

These truly are the last photos from this vantage point from me. We moved out of our office last weekend but I got to return today for a few minutes so took advantage of the time there. It's unlikely that I'll be back.
