It doesn't matter what it starts out as, or how innocent the subject matter, any teenage boy's drawing will eventually, given enough time, involve gunplay and/or strafing fighter jets.

That was what elementary school was all about. High school - trojans14 got it right (my friend got pretty upset once when I drew a decently well done picture of his mom naked spreading herself on his notebook cover). Nowadays most of my drawings have involved mountains, gnomes lighting lanterns, fat chicks holding guns, bunnies sitting on the beach, Dick Tracy shooting at a Spartan from behind a tea kettle, happy mushrooms or whatever other psychedelic theme I happen to be thinking about.

HomeInMyShoes - supposed to be quite a bit of tasks actually.

Well, I did have several encounters with Philadelphia's criminal elements, and none of them were exactly a tea party.

I think its a statement about urban crime.

Also, its a metaphor for life and a symbol of the human condition.

I don't know what could have fueled such sentiments in me. It's probably not the newspaper in front of me with a front page article about teachers being afraid to go to schools because of increasing school violence, and they're probably not my friends' (and my own) encounters with local crime. Must be the videogames and the music the youth is exposed to ;)

But then again, NWA came up in my playlist a few minutes before I made the drawing, which started out as a quick concept sketchfor myself concerning the great spire debate.

And thanks for the positive comments guys.

The forced perspective places the figures in stark contrast to the generic, archetypal cityscape behind them. The warriors loom over the city, indeed becoming part of the anonymous skyline, underlying man's dominance over his creation, creating a physical and emotional distance between man and his environment. Their existence on separate focal planes contrasts with the similar styles of rendering--monochromatic and frenetic; limbs pulsating and ambiguous, skyscrapers erect and flaccid. Here we clearly see what Jung called the "Hero-Archetype", however in this instance the heroes are duplicated and set upon each other, a devastatingly nihilistic commentary on contemporary geo-political relations.
