It is the most recent bridge in Tejo river in great Lisbon connecting
Montijo (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montijo) and Alcochete (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcochete) to Sacavém (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacav%C3%A9m), very near to Parque das Nações (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parque_das_Na%C3%A7%C3%B5es), where the Expo 98 (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expo_98) was divulgated. Open on 4 de Abril (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/4_de_Abril) in 1998 (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998), it is the longest in Europe with 17,2km long which 10km in Tejo. The widest clearance is 420m in central part. It is a traffic alternative for the 25 de Abril Bridge, both connecting norht and south of Portugal. Go Through the Natural Park of Estuário do Tejo (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parque_Natural_do_Estu%C3%A1rio_do_Tejo), a important area for aquatic birds. During it construction 300 families were moved. The name is to comemorate 500 years since Vasco da Gama (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasco_da_Gama) comes to Índia (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%8Dndia), in 1498 (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/1498). One of the highest structures in Portugal.

The Vasco da Gama Bridge in Lisbon, Portugal is an immense cable-stayed bridge project which took years to plan and design and construct. The actual construction time of this structure represented a world record for a bridge of this scale. The center span is cable-stayed, while the approach spans are concrete, box girder spans, which were constructed using the balance cantilever method.
