Studies show that Embrun's major routes, Notre-Dame and St-Guillaume, will exceed their capacity bu 2023 so the township is planning to reroute outgoing traffic to St-Pierre street. This street will be widened and there will also be added left turn lanes at the Notre-Dame - St-Pierre intersection as well as the 300-st-Pierre intersection (where they will add a traffic light). As a second phase they will change the Notre-Dame and St-Guillaume intersection, which is very problematic, into a roundabout. This new feature will help not only the traffic but also add an attractive entrance to the town. This shall surely also help Embrun's exponential growth.

This news is in this weeks (la nouvelle) newspaper. It is great, a roundabout will add beauty to my beloved town. :worship: :notacrook:

With the roundabout and the plaza de l'est project they might as well rename Embrun to Europe town

plaza de l'est is not european... it's a dressed up powercentre, far from the village, against the PPS, not good planning

have you heard where the new recreation centre will go?

edit: that will be a good intersection for a roundabout :)

I'll use this thread to post updates on the embrun urbanisation. The new sports complex and campus for the canadian international academy of hockey will be situated on route 300 which is parallel to the current main street. Therefore, Embrun will also have some north-south development to dilute the population away from notre-dame. So Traffic from Notre-dame will also be sent to route 300 (may be renamed) and with the traffic emprovements mentionned earlier Embrun will also dilute its outgoing traffic on 2 streets as well as other minor roads. the new sports complex is said to be build sometime between 2009-2014, as for plaza de l'est they are modifiing their proposal because the last one was not approved. It should have begun construction but is delayed. With the changes the first phase will be less comprehensive with only 2 restaurants, several stores, a grocery store and no clock tower. The clock tower will be added in latter phases. As for commerce inside the town this business complex will be constructedhttp://www.lapointehomes.com/english/graphics/comm_rental/738_notre-dame.jpg
it will mostly have offices.

This huge shopping plaza is also approved on seguin street neer the chrysler dealerhttp://www.lapointehomes.com/english/graphics/comm_rental/3_seguin.jpg
It will be built in 2 phases and is said to be the largest shopping plaza in a 20km radius

finaly this small appartement/business complex
http://www.lapointehomes.com/english/graphics/comm_rental/centenaire.jpg
will be built on centenaire street and is ideal for video stores and such

Man, if the plaza de l'est proposal and the sports complex proposal go through as well as the roundabout and new traffic control it will be great:notacrook:

Oh yes and neer the bikepath entrence (old train station/ tourist office) there will be a commercial complex of 2 stores, looks nice and euroeen sorry no pic i can try to get one if you want
