26 floors = 13 weeks, so top out is still on pace for early July.Considering only 18 floors have been constructed during the last 17 weeks, it's unlikely it will be topped out in early July. Unless the weather was a major major factor and they go from a pace of a little over a floor per week to 2 floors per week and the transfer floor doesn't take a long time, early July is still atainable. I think early August is more likely with a possibility of late July.

I was there today. I keep meaning to bring my camera just to take a picture of that striking wall of 'scrapers every time I go to NW Memorial Hospital. I wouldn't even have to park the car, just leave it in the middle of the street for a few minutes while I get out and snap the pictures. Why do people keep asking this question every week?probably because they want to know and don't check the site everyday. They probably enjoy architecture and skyscrapers and want to know how high one of Chicago's tallest buildings currently is. And considering the pace the building is now going, the answer to that question changes fast every week.

Next up: 900 North Michigan (871 ft)

I'm impressed they're able to maintain their 2 floors/week rate even as the building approaches a height of 900 feet.

I would have thought having to move materials from the ground to such a height would have slowed the pace down a bit.

One has to also take into account the lower levels are larger spaces, thus making it still feasible to do 2 floors a week.

But yeah, it is still pretty quick. It seems that every time I come into this thread, I am surprised by how far along it is coming...

They're adding 2 floors a week.I don't want to be a contrarian but the building has been rising past the third setback since the end of last November. That was 18 weeks ago and 18-20 floors have been completed since. Maybe you were referring to the pace they are currently at, which would be nice so that it can top out faster.

I see what you're saying here but i think that is a great dynamic of this building. The shifts make it look more sculptural than if were a tower straight up. It doesn't get too thin at the top(other than the spire of course) which helps balance the weight i think.

At least for now, the Trump Tower is a nice place to self-park your car. Yes, it's somewhat expensive ($22.00 a day), but that's competitive within the Mag Mile area. The important consideration is it's nearly empty - no crawling up 12 floors behind a slow-moving Lincoln Town Car with Iowa plates! I had the entire 5th floor literally to myself.

Yes Trump really has gotten more impressive the taller it has gotten. I really appreciate how the orientation of the building for the river also oriented to Grant Park in the distance. It create a more dramatic presence there when viewed from the southeast corner of the park. The building would be more "standard" if it hadnt been placed on an unusual parcel of land within Chicago. The building accomplishes the conservative sophistication that Trump usually likes in his projects. They may not always be the most specatular projects, but they offer what is likely accomplishable. Now if we could only find a way to dim the outside appearance of the parking garage lights at night, they overwhelm the fact that it is a building and that a human element is supposed to be present on the river below. Unfortunately we have to live with that.

actually, proper foundation construction on trump began in march of '05, making it a little over 3 years since this tower started.

^ Your memory would be far more clear on that than mine. I havent seen the building at night since last November so it may stick out in my memory worse than it actually was. I am anxious to see the plaza areas and how people use those spaces once the building is finished. Urban outdoor spaces intrigue me. I love Madison Square Park in New York, people socialize in those areas way into the late hours. It would be nice to finally give a place where people would be more likely to do that such as here.

In industry standards, they have been flying since they got off the ground. A floor a week for concrete is the typical goal for a high rise. They were able to stagger the floors and pull a floor and a half, and now are apparently up to two floors a week on a smaller plate. Pretty sick pace.

I'm not exactly a food critic, but I went there for lunch a few days ago and other than the view I can't recommend 16. The waiter took my order for one of the daily specials (it was some sort of fish sandwich IIRC) and returned 10 minutes later with the menu to inform me they had run out of it. I ordered a steak sandwich as a replacement - it was pretty poor for $21. I didn't make a big deal of it, but the 3 people I was with expressed varying levels of disastifaction with their lunches as well. Good thing my company paid. 16 was nearly empty for lunch, but buzzing with activity at dinner time. We opted for the nearby Joe's Crab Shack for dinner instead - a wise choice.

In general I found the staff at the hotel friendly and eager to help (sometimes too eager). An event manager who was helping me was extremely kind and resourceful - and not bad on the eyes either. Most other employees were proud, enthusiastic, and willing to put on a good show. But often I sensed a lack of basic knowledge of the building they were working in. I was told on Tuesday they were "pouring 72", but the same person claimed the building would be 92 floors - as well as the largest concrete building in the world. I was misdirected several times.

Freight elevators had to be summoned by intercom and operated manually by an attendant (who managed to let the door close on a $300,000 laser, thankfully with no damage) - resulting in interminable waits to get down to the LL loading dock. These same filthy elevators - used for hauling construction equipment and garbage - were being used for room service meal delivery. So if you stay at the hotel and room service delivers your dinner late - and with a coating of drywall dust - you'll know why. Also, in an attempt to bypass the freight elevators, I used another elevator bank which would only take me to an employee area on 15M, where I was locked in the elevator lobby with no access to a stairway - I had to wait for the elevator to return. What if there had been a fire?! (Later, after mentioning this, the exit door was unlocked.)

The only other problem I noticed is that cell reception is almost non-existent in the entire building unless you stand right up against the exterior windows. I was told they were working to improve the situation.

I don't want to sound too critical since all these problems were minor and pretty much what I expected from a hotel operating in an under-construction building. Other than that, it was a perfect Trump experience! :haha: Just stay clear of 16 until they work the bugs out.

^^ you had to use the freight elevators? wtf?? :haha: I've been up there about 3 or 4 times now and never had that problem.

I can confirm cell phones dont work there either.

To haul a 1200 lb laser up to the 16th floor? Yes - I was required to use the freight elevator.

CBOT I might go to breakfast there on Sunday, do I have to/should I make reservations? Is it usually crowded?

I will be sure to try the waffles.
