Restaurant Mexico is another. This is its' 3rd location in the last 7 years. It's moved each time due to demolition. Open...open...open...

Here are a few Light Rail progress pics as well...
These guys said that the train has already hit the tracks for testing, but I haven't seen it yet. They must be testing during odd hours...

Nice shots, but I was hoping for more of the city. Who are these people?!?! ;)

Vertex, thanks for the great shots. We used to go to the festival of the arts twice a year: Spring & Fall. We have a lot of ceramic art we picked up there...lot's of talented artisans. Tempe will have so much completed over the next couple of years. It will be an entirely new place, so traditions like the festival of the arts are important for community contunity. Love the dog on the juggler's head!

Infill, this weekend was strictly about people-watching, and getting used to the new camera.

It was a little hard for some regular city shots, given the crowds.

Maybe some DT-only shots next weekend.

Jim, thanks for the props. The fair has shrunk a bit since the late 90's, but it's more focused now. Fewer vendors, free admission again, and more manageable crowds.

Can you believe they actually banned dogs for a couple of years? Glad to see them back.

The plane is a KC-135 tanker jet, a conversion of the old 707. This one in the pic has new engines, because the old ones they used SPEWED smoke and were super-noisy. That jet could have been in service since the late 50's.

Ahh, thanks. It must be quite a workhorse, given how long they have been in service.

No problem, when it comes to my newbie photo skills, I simply took it as an honest observation.

Anyway, I'm going out next weekend regardless. I want to document the light rail through downtown and ASU (with all of the new buildings on campus).

Great photos! But I can care less about the Festival of the Arts...just overpriced artwork IMO. That Centerpoint banner is TALL! 10 stories!

Though I'm not a patron of the arts festival myself, it doesn't mean that it's somehow not as worthy of an annual event. Homegrown festivals, events and such, like this, are great things to have.

More great pictures, v.

I was in Tempe this weekend and EVERYONE complained about parking. I took the bus. There was a constant stream of people walking down University to Mill Ave. while I was waiting for my bus.
Looks like great pics, I'm bummed I was too busy working to get to see much of the festival. Maybe next time.

You got the two gratuitous rear shots of the young girls... that outta count for something! (But the little miniature laughing heyenna being offered a drink of water at the end ruined it! :D )

Vertex- that building on 6th and College is one of the coolest I have ever seen- Commercial Lofts- wicked. Go by at 7ish sometime and check it out.

Also- the Transit Center is supposed to be bad ass....
Someone check the renderings- I am pretty sure if memory serves me it is an impressive structure slated to go in.

Good pics- thanks

Sustainable Strategies
The Transportation Center building and plaza will feature a variety of green building strategies:

-Conservation of water, using low-flow fixtures, waterless urinals, green roof, greywater, rainwater harvesting, and native plants.
-Energy conservation, using energy-efficient equipment and photovoltaic solar collection.
-Recycled materials, rapidly renewable resources, and local/regional materials.
-Improved indoor air quality
-Climate-sensitive site development, providing alternative transportation options, absorptive “cool” pavers, reduction of heat island effect, and water-efficient landscaping for shade.

Sweet, I've always thought green roofs were really neat. I'm glad they'll have this in Tempe, it looks awesome.

Looks awesome!

So what's supposed to happen on College further south (north of Univ)? Right now that has the potential to be a mini-Mill, but there are some serious bus pull outs along that roadmaking it ugly/pedestrian unfriendly (if nothing more than due to the fumes), this new transit center will take the place of all of those stops, right? It would be nice to see some development in the center of that stretch of the road.

That would be the "Block 12" on the Tempe development map, and to my knowledge there hasn't been anything said about what will end up there. Rest assured, it will be something big and cool.

What about the airplane?

I know it's a navy palne and at 1 time there were commerical jets known as 707's which were the 1st commerical jet planes.

That's about all I know.

Wow, Tempe really is becoming urban, perverts included! Gotta laugh at that one. The real test will be the crazy people on the light rail or perhaps even, if we're lucky, musicians that will board and play for money. Then I'll know the Valley has finally made it.
