With a potential transit strike, it might be interesting to see how everyone gets to work or school.

Drive. Was going to start taking the train this month, but with the threat of a strike looming and all the work-to-rule horror stories I've been reading lately, I think I'll stick to the car for the time being.

Entirely by public transit. I would walk or bike if I could but I can't afford to move out into a place that would enable such alternative modes of transportation.

EDIT: I walk to the station several times a week though, and get around the inner city by foot.

Drive. I used to take the train when I worked downtown, but my company moved its location to the northeast (Sunridge Business Park), which is basically out in the middle of nowhere.

It takes me 15 minutes to drive here, but over an hour if I went by transit.

Watch bike sales in Calgary go through the roof if a strike happens.

Carpool with my GF. I used to walk when I lived downtown, but a couple months ago moved into a house with her. Now, everymorning we just drive in to work together (I work just south of the core, so I do have to backtrack a little, but I have free parking). It takes about the same amount of time to make the drive as it did for me to walk when I lived downtown.

Bike since 1994. I live in Coach Hill so it's only a 20-25 minute commute along the river pathways to canterra. It takes a little longer getting home. It's worked out really well especially in the last couple of years avoiding all the road construction on Bow Trail.

I used to take the train to school, but after I moved I just drive because it only takes me 10 minutes.

Carpool with the girlfriend. I live downtown, drop her off in Millrise then boot down Deerfoot to the NE. I was thinking of starting to take transit but with the strike looming and the recent cold weather, that's on the backburner. I do like to do tons of walking as well.

i take transit for the most part of my commute. however, there is still a fair bit of walking (2km in total) that i have to do throughout my day to get from transit to my work and residence.

I drive but I'm hoping to start biking as soon as the weather turns for the better. Inglewood to Sunalta, straightshot down the bow river pathway. Although I'm probably going to have to Mad Max my bike up a bit to get through the sketchy bit by the drop in centre.

Walk from the Beltline west of 8th Street SW to Scotia Centre then take the #1 bus to Inglewood (near 14th Street SE). When the weather is nice I have walked back home. It takes about 45 minutes but it sure gives you time to think about things and de-stress from the day at the office. I actually enjoy walking.

I did not buy a monthly transit pass this month. As long as the talks are ongoing I thought it would be financially more sensible to purchase the 10 pack to use as needed. Hope the city and the transit union reach an agreement without a strike.

Drive part way - park in Westbrook shopping lot. Then hop 1 of 3 buses that go down Bow Trail to DT. I'd take the express bus from my community if it ran during decent hours. The last evening bus leaves DT just past 5:00 - who leaves at 5:00 any more??

#2 stops at the end of my block, and drops me off a 1/2 block from work. Occasionally I cab it if I'm running late (about $10), and when it's warm I often walk home from work, and sometimes to work (45 min walk)

Drive (currently by myself, no one else looking to carpool at the time I need to be heading in currently) from Cochrane to Macmahon, then either walk or catch a #9, #19, #119 or #72 to campus.

Transit.

I take the #79 from Braeside Drive to the Wal-Mart on MacLeod.

I can walk it if I have to, but obviously I'd rather not. (I'm a monthly pass holder)

I walk, I have the luxury of both living and working downtown.

Drive - my wife drops me off at work, then drives to near the university. She used to take transit, but would get nauseous now that she's pregnant. Once baby is born, My wife will stay home, and I'll either take the car, or bike during the summer. Biking takes about 15 minutes, driving takes 7-12. I take the car by myself on days which my wife doesn't work.

I drive in the winter months: Memorial to Deerfoot north and exit on 32nd for 12 St.

And bike in the summer months up the nosehill creek path.

I'm not hardcore enough to bike all year round...yet.

Car unfortunately - I do miss Kingston for that - I could walk to and from work year-round without too much bother from the cold. Although now I do get to listen to a lot more inane radio chatter.

I wish that I could run a home business after school...but for now I take the 199 to Brentwood and the 20 to school...

^I work for one of the largest companies in the world - but there is a big corporate move to reduce the need for office space, and allow workers the additional flexibility to work at home...this trend will continue to a lot of other companies in the future - I guarantee it (okay, maybe not for Encana ;-)

Before I moved to the burbs and started travelling (5-8 years ago), I lived and worked downtown Calgary...5-20 minute walk. I used to walk out of the condo in the beltline, see the bumper-to-bumper traffic on 12th Ave, and let out a sigh of relief.

Walk down the stairs to my den. :-)

/\ me jealous...

I drive 30 minutes to work, 10 of which in the city... free company vehicle/gas card + Sirius radio makes the drive tolerable though.

Drive. Transit isn't an option for me unless I fancy 90 minute one way commute. Wish transit was quicker...
