For those in Vancouver, I recommend going and checking out "Radiant City", a comical documentary on suburban sprawl (Western Canadian Style).
Its based in Calgary but it can be applied to anywhere. It basically tells you what you already know - suburbs are cold, heartless, soul-sucking wastelands of over-planned subdivisions and sprawl; and how they are completely un-sustainable - horrible remnants of the last 50 years, completely designed around the premise that oil is an abundant resource.
The way its filmed is great though, pointing out how flawed suburbia is.... its a classic comedy, its funny cause its true. Its playing nightly at the Vancouver International Film Centre on Seymour.
