For those in Vancouver, I recommend going and checking out "Radiant City", a comical documentary on suburban sprawl (Western Canadian Style).

Its based in Calgary but it can be applied to anywhere. It basically tells you what you already know - suburbs are cold, heartless, soul-sucking wastelands of over-planned subdivisions and sprawl; and how they are completely un-sustainable - horrible remnants of the last 50 years, completely designed around the premise that oil is an abundant resource.

The way its filmed is great though, pointing out how flawed suburbia is.... its a classic comedy, its funny cause its true. Its playing nightly at the Vancouver International Film Centre on Seymour.

Check out their website for a trailer and more info:

ProudlyCanadian, RobD and I went to see this last weekend. An interesting note is that they never say 'Calgary' throughout the entire film, they only mention the names of suburbs. (and all of them were in my end of town)

Man, it isn't playing at Granville 7 anymore. Going to have to wait until it comes out on DVD.

Luckily I caught it at the Uptown here in Calgary yesterday evening. I'm pretty sure it was one of its final screenings there.

funny movie... I'm not really a Kunstler fan, but his parts were great, especially the chain link fence part :D

The "ambiance of a riot in cell block D" part? That was pretty good!
