What images seem to the most common regarding your city?

^^ I would agree with all of those except for the last one. Pictures of the legislative grounds, wascana park, the twin towers and the RCMP are way overdone in this city, but I actually think the pedestrian mall isn't advertised enough!

I have a feeling that most people in Canada have no idea it exists

Pedestrian mall. A street of stores, restaurants, condos, etc only available by foot. Perhaps I was wrong in my assumption that this is a common Regina image.

Regina's pedestrian mall is marked on the Mapart map of the city, but I can't find it listed in the points of interest. It's small too, so people probably don't notice much. Looks nice though. Could be a potential model for other cities.

The funny thing is - neither of those are in city limits! The street life, being a disgrace, is not advertised.

Our pedestrian mall has a roof, and is full of lowlife druggies. :) And government offices. :)

For Ottawa, the obvious views are either Parliament Hill from the Museum of Civilization across the river, or the Rideau Canal in winter with the Laurier bridge crossing over it.

Well I don't have any pictures to back it up, but my initial thoughts when i saw this thread were pictures (views) or opinions (also views in another sense) of what came to people minds when they thought of a particular city.

A few examples (for me) would be:

Vancouver - a shot of the harbour, either in brilliant sun, or more likely in dreary overcast and rain.

Calgary - cowboys or red neck oil patch types

Winnipeg - someone freezing their ass off in a blizzard on Portage & Main

etc etc.

I find it a bit sad when people feel they are stuck living in a city because of "their job". Chances are there are "jobs" available back wherever they would rather be. Really, life just whizzes by, so I guess a person has to make priorities.

Sometimes it's true, though, and you gotta make a decision between doing what you love and living where you love... Academia is notorious for this--if you choose the professor route, your chance of living where you want is 1 in 100 to 1 in 1 milliion depending on your field.

My City (even though I currently live elsewhere) will always be Montreal. The immediate stereotype is that it is filled with beautiful woman...

...on that stereotype, Montreal delivers!!

The Montreal stereotype that I always heard growing up was that it was full of bad drivers.

Yep, that's Winnipeg :P. That's how most Canadians see it anyways. I know I used to.

Sad but true, but certainly not totally correct, however this is about stereotypical views.

Folks, I'm not sure we're understanding this "stereotype" notion- feepa is the only one who gets it- and the shot of Van with the potsmokers is getting there.

Any stereotypical Calgary shot would have to have a few cowboy hats, Ralph Klein, zero ethnic diversity, and a general air of hickness to it.

PLEASE, not Ralphie. I work in Health Care and know first hand what they did to it! :hell:

The only recognizable shot of Sherbrooke... Most of you have probably never seen this statue, unless you've been to Sherbrooke in the past. If you did, then you'll recognize it for sure! It's located downtown, almost on the corner of King and Wellington street.

Those aren't stereotypical sights but I love them! Mont Orford in the back on the first shot, and Lac des Nations on the other one, one of the 2 lakes in the city.
