News story from KSAT 12.

Schertz will be the second city in the San Antonio area to install the red light cameras.

Schertz is quite explosive in growth, growing from 26,463 in 2005 to 34,000 in 2006.

Schertz has nearly doubled its 2000 population of 18,000 in just six short years..

FYI. I emailed the reporter in the video Eric and asked him where he got the 34,000 number. He replied that the city gave it to him and said it was the official 2006 population for Schertz. That would mean that the Schertz-Cibolo area is at or about 50,000 strong. Not too bad for an area that was barely at 20,000 6 years ago.

I drive through Schertz-Cibolo every day on my way to work. S-C is absolutely blowing up. Thousand of houses are going in. Hundreds if not thousands are going in along FM 1103 alone, not to mention all thec other areas.

That is amazing.

More amazing, according to a 150%-every-6 years growth cycle, the Schertz/Cibolo area will be home to 4,882,812 people in 2036. :haha:

Amzing growth in SA's northeastern reaches. So I'm guessing Cibolo's population is in the neighborhood of 16,000? Thats amazing... I knew Schertz was growing, but did not realize to what extent, and especially Cibolo. Are there any large retail centers proposed for the citires? (beyond the HEB and WalMart, etc.). I guess for now The Forum, down the road, serves as the big attraction (and Rolling Oaks, to an extent).

Ok wow... I've been browsing the city of Schertz's website. The city's land area is huge...at least half of which is undeveloped, yet primed for major growth in the future. Schertz not only has miles of frontage along I-35, between Selma and New Braunfels, but also along I-10 E, to the south. Depending on the density of future developments, we're looking at a population of well over 100k in the not too distant future, along with tons of economic development opportunities.

Check out the master thoroughfare plan map, including clity limits/ETJ.

Schertz is SA's (currently) infant version of Plano.

As for retail, there is The Forum as well as The Fountains of Live Oak being built across the Forum on the other side of 35. Not to mention Schertz has a few new medium and small size retail centers that are very nice as well as many under construction but I honestly don't doubt within 5 years if a major development is announced for Schertz-Cibolo.

Connecting 3009 with 10 is what will stimulate growth on the south side of Schertz.

:lmao: HA HA HA! These estimates can sometimes get out of hand. But then again the metrocom is expected to reach 100,000 in the not to distant future.

Schertz-Cibolo are going to eventually meet up with New Braunfels, there are tons of housing developments going in in that area. I could definitely see S-C going over 100K in the not too distant future.

On the topic of red light cameras, Amarillo has been waiting for the Texas legislature's decision on how municipalities can use the money. We have a big problem here in AMA with red light collisions, so much so that many people, including myself, don't like being the first one to go through a green light.
