The Harrison MetroCentre Master Plan will have several distinctly different areas:
3 million square feet of planned low-rise, mid-rise, and high-rise office space, , there is virtually unlimited room for tenants, and their employees to grow.
3,500 residential rental and "for sale" units.
300,000 sq. ft. of street level retail to include restaurants, cafes, apparel, the arts, and a hotel - all within walking distance.
A 25,000 seat stadium and new home of the New York Red Bulls will provide sporting events, entertainment, as well as many other events.
A beautiful riverfront park and recreation area.
Multiple modes of mass transit at your door step (PATH, NJ Transit, Amtrak).
A proposed new 4-way interchange to Interstate 280 - on site - with immediate access to the NJ Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway.
Minutes to Newark Liberty International Airport via rail service or car.
A stable, innovative municipal government that welcomes and works with the business community.
Financial incentives available for businesses locating at Harrison MetroCentre.
Harrison MetroCentre is a place where the excitement and stimulation of city life takes place along wide tree-lined boulevards and sidewalks. Beautiful streetscapes and park benches draw you outside to enjoy conversation and refreshments with friends. It's a place where people can stroll past inviting cafes, pubs, outdoor plazas and stores during and after their workday.
This is a combination that cannot be matched in the NY Metro area. The Redevelopment Plan is in place and with construction beginning on the entirety of Phase I shortly, Harrison MetroCentre is real and ready to go.

In the Center of Everything
With New York City just eight miles to the east and Newark just across the river, Harrison MetroCentre is in the center of everything.
All the business, cultural riches, shopping and glamour of Manhattan are a short train ride away. Just across the bridge in Newark are the acclaimed live theater and musical events of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Sports fans can catch the action of New York Giants and Jets football, New Jersey Devils hockey, and New Jersey Nets basketball at the nearby Meadowlands. At the MetroCentre itself, the New York Red Bulls professional soccer team will play in the soon-to-be built Red Bull Park, and the outstanding recreational areas of the Jersey Shore are just down the Garden State Parkway.

Bill would ban teams playing in N.J. from using "New York''
April 28, 2007
HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Normally it is Jersey fans who gripe that they don't get any respect from pro sports teams that play at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford but have "New York" in their names.
But three New York assemblymen recently sponsored a bill to stop football's Giants and Jets and soccer's Red Bulls from using the Empire State's name or abbreviation because they don't play their home games in New York.
"At the very least, the location of the place where a team plays should be accurate, and reflect where they actually play their home games," Assemblyman Ivan Lafayette, of Queens, writes in the bill, as reported by The Record of Bergen County in Saturday newspapers.
The legislation wasn't started here, but it seems to have some supporters in the Garden State.
"That bill does sound like a Jersey thing, which is ironic considering that over here we basically seem to have given up on this," George Zoffinger, head of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority told the newspaper. "But I think with all the money we give these teams, they should be called 'New Jersey."'
So far the bill _ co-sponsored by Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz of the Bronx and Felix Ortiz of Brooklyn _ only applies to sports teams.
Officials from the three teams have adamantly said that they aren't going to change their names.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing this Bill pass, even I highly doubt it will. I've always had gripes with NY teams not changing their names, especially when the metrostars changed their names to NY!

Any sign they're moving ahead with any of the residential and commercial development that's supposed to surround the stadium? Doesn't look like it from the photos, although they don't show the whole site. It's going to be a long, desolate walk from the PATH train to that stadium if nothing else gets built.

The stadium is near the PATH station. I was told by someone in the area that there was a delay with the residential developments (not surprising) but it had more to do with local coruption than the economy.

I am really excited for Red Bull Arena to be finished this year. Finally North Jersey will have a premier place to go and watch a Soccer match. It's easily going to be the class of the MLS and probably will attract the US national team to schedule a couple of more games per year in the NJ area.
And btw, NYguy. The PATH train authority has already started to change out the older Path cars. I go to Newark atleast once a week and have ridden them a couple of times. As of right now generally the newer ones are riding from Newark straight to the WTC Path Hub. They are not running thru hoboken yet.

The sad thing will be if they dont putt as much into building the team personnel after this stadium is done. It would be an absolute embarassment to have the by far the best stadium in the MLS be

***P.S.. The best comparison of this stadium would be a larger version in Germany called the Allianz Arena.

Yeah, this will definitely be the best MLS stadium, and in the middle of the most lucrative market, so the team better improve, and soon.
And if MLS has any intelligence, they will award a Queens team soon, most likely to the Wilpons. It's absolutely insane that what is easily the largest concentration of South Americans in the U.S. lacks professional soccer.
All those Ecuadorians, Peruvians and Colombians in Central Queens, and no soccer?

Queens won't be getting an MLS team any time soon, as they just got a USL team. Their best bet for an MLS team would be for the USL team to move up to the MLS in 5-6 years.

What the hell is USL? And what does that have to do with MLS?
And if they aren't getting an MLS team soon, then why has the MLS Commissioner's office been trying to convince the Wilpons to apply for a franchise? This has been a very public effort.
There isn't a market in the nation that makes more sense than Queens. This includes existing MLS markets. You have about 500.000 South Americans in a few square miles surrounding the Wilpon site.

That was prior to Queens being awarded a USL team. They won't be getting an MLS team now, unless the USL teams moves up. If MLS is NA's Premier League, USL is The Football League, only there is no performance-based promotion or relegation like in the UK. That wouldn't be for at least 5-6 years. I'm kind of surprised I'm having to explain this.

Seriously? Talking soccer and don't know what the United Soccer League is? Right now it's top division has teams in Vancouver, Portland, Austin, Miami, Cleveland, Montreal, Puerto Rico, etc. The Seattle Sounders of the MLS just moved "up" from the USL First Division and Vancouver will do the same in a couple of years. It's now the preferred way of getting into MLS so there is less risk from a new franchise. Instead, MLS gets a franchise with a fan base and proven front office. That is the only way Queens is getting into MLS and even that wont happen until 2015 at the earliest.

The first complete roof section at Red Bull Arena was finished yesterday. The facade panels have all been installed around Red Bull Arena and now, the first of the roof panels was finished today. The roof panels extend 120 feet from the facade over the seating bowl with the final 60 feet composed of translucent panels. These translucent panels will allow natural light to pass through into the bowl. In total, there will be 94 panels used to complete the Red Bull Arena roof. When completely installed, the roof will extend over the entire seating bowl and curve down to the concourse.
Fans can already see the dynamic stadium as all of the lower roof panels are installed making the stadium visible from the air and highways. Red Bull Arena is now noticeable for fans passing through Harrison on Interstate 280 and from the New Jersey Turnpike, as well as from the air.

Red Bulls Soccer-Only Stadium to Be MLS Crown Jewel
http://imgsrv.1010wins.com/image/wins/UserFiles/Image/red%20bull%20arena.jpg
October 3, 2009
HARRISON, N.J. (AP/1010 WINS) -- An intimate, soccer-only stadium rising in a careworn former industrial city is expected to be the crown jewel of Major League Soccer and one of the keys to a local redevelopment project.
At more than $200 million, the new home of the New York Red Bulls professional soccer team will be the costliest MLS stadium ever built when it opens in March beside the Passaic River in Harrison. MLS Commissioner Don Garber said it "will be the premier soccer stadium in America."
Austria-based energy drink maker Red Bull GmbH is paying for everything at the stadium, just north of Newark's largely Brazilian and Portuguese Ironbound neighborhood, about 10 miles from New York City. It designed the 25,000-seat facility, which is shaped like a doughnut, along European lines, with an emphasis on getting fans close to the field - some just 21 feet away.
For the 15,000 residents of the northern New Jersey town, which can be reached directly from lower Manhattan via the PATH commuter train, Red Bull Arena is the centerpiece of a 250-acre riverfront revitalization effort 12 years in the making. The project has been delayed by the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, which destroyed the PATH station beneath the World Trade Center, and by the recession.
The mixed-use development project around the arena will produce 7,000 condominium and rental units, said Mayor Ray McDonough, who estimates completion in five years if the economy improves, 10 years if it doesn't.
The Harrison Redevelopment Agency's executive director, Greg Kowalski, estimated the total value of the project at about $1.5 billion. He said the mix of tenant- and owner-occupied units is tilting toward the rental market as the recession makes mortgage financing more difficult. The location is popular with people who work in Manhattan and Newark, a regional employment hub.
Harrison, once known as the Beehive of Industry, has stagnated since the 1950s, as factory closings have eliminated more than 50,000 jobs. But McDonough said the riverfront development project could more than double its population and would "bring this town back to life."
Red Bull Arena will be the eighth soccer-only stadium for the 15-team MLS, which started in 1996. The strategy was adopted in 1999 to allow fans to bond with their stadiums much as New York Yankees baseball fans identify with Yankee Stadium and fans of the Manchester United soccer team in England identify with Old Trafford.
Early professional soccer leagues in the U.S. were at a disadvantage as tenants in stadiums meant for other sports, Garber said. And the Red Bulls have suffered from the lack of a home of their own. The team draws an average of 16,000 fans to its home games in East Rutherford at the original Giants Stadium, which seats about 80,000.
Red Bulls spokesman Andy McGowan said the new arena is small by design to create a home team advantage.
"It's really to create that soccer atmosphere," he said, "so it's an exciting event to attend."
New York resident Zak Ivkovic, who has followed the team since its inception as the MetroStars in 1996, said soccer fans are eager for a team better than the current one, which, led by forward Juan Pablo Angel, has Major League Soccer's worst record.
"New York demands winners," Ivkovic said. "I'm glad they're building a great stadium, but at the end of day the Red Bulls have to consistently put a good team on the field."

It is a great soccer stadium and will hopefully be the inspiration for future soccer stadiums in North America.

outside of the big boys (man u, real madrid, etc), 25,000 is pretty standard, and when you get out of the top tier leagues, it might be considered large.

Who the hell is comparing it to europe or south america??
Speaking of which .. lets go thru some of the smaller teams in the Barclays Premier League and look at their capacity... because to compare Red Bulls to a top club in South America or Arsenal or Chelsea is just ludicrous.
Burnley - Turf Moor - 22,000
Fulham - Craven Cottage - 25,600
Hull City - KC Stadium - 25,400
Portsmouth - Fratton Park - 20,000
Stoke City - Britannia Stadium - 28,000
West Ham - Boleyn Ground - 35,000
Wolverhampton - Molineux Stadium - 29,000
So basically my point is I dont get why you are taking shots at Red Bull Arena when half the stadiums in the most popular league in the world has capacities that are even with and / or on par with the one being built in New Jersey, for a team that plays in a league thats not even in the same stratosphere as the ones from Europe.

I had no idea that West Ham played in such a small stadium! They're one of the biggest teams in the world...
It's a impressive new stadium, and it'll be a pleasure beating youse guys there. :D

Really? It looks more continental to me. One thing I don't like is how the first row of seats will be at a different grade than the pitch. I heard it's done so the spectators in the first few rows won't be at eye level with the player's knees, but I personally prefer to be on the same grade as the pitch if I'm in the first row. I could definitely be part of a minority though.

Now that stadium is mostly done , the Town of Harrison needs to demolition the old Factories ,but Unfortnatly that will be costly and expensive since they border 2 of New Jersey's Buiset Rail corridors. Also since the economy is a bit down , that hasn't happened yet.

Youre probably right but if you notice all those empty lots out there, they are open space for the pending residential section of the project to start soon which eventually should look like this:
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u211/east5n/Harrison.jpg
So if they were going to go ahead and bury those lines then had to change something in the project, they'd ahve to dig them back up again.
