The "Rhoen" is a low range mountain un Northwest Bavaria at the frontier to Hesse. Some parts of the "Rhoen" belong to Thuringia. The highest mountain of "Rhoen" is "Wasserkuppe", 950 metres above sea level. On "Wasserkuppe" is a famous airfield for gliding planes.

Heidelstein is a 926 metre high mountain north of Bischofsheim, approximately 10 kilometres north of Bischofsheim. The area of Heidelstein, where the TV mast and two small masts used for aircraft communication are the only manmade high structures, is under natural protection.

Cross Mountain (German: Kreuzberg) is a 928 metre high mountain of the Rhoen southly of Bischofsheim. On Kreuzberg, there is beside the transmiter, a famous monastery. Kreuzberg is a place of pilgrimage. From the monastery to the summit ( where bedide of the transmitter, there is a also a wooden summit cross), a crossway runs.
