Mine would probably be, ranked off of shopping availability, food, cleanliness, habitability, and architecture, I'd say:

1. Phoenix (wish they had some better scrapers)
2. Denver (awesome, developing great)
3. Kansas City (BEST FOOD, cool historical stuff)
4. Miami (underrated skyline, plus, it's really gangster like, which I like)
5. San Diego (nice weather, good shopping, nice skyline)

BnaBreaker
04-26-2007, 03:42 AM
It'd be very hard to rank them, but i'll pick five of my favorites, in no particular order:

1. Palermo
2. Lima
3. Cairo
4. Chongqing
5. Mexico City

1. Chicago
2. San Francisco
3. Boston
4. Oakland
5. NYC

Criteria in no particular order- skyline, density, general atmosphere and vibe, open spaces, amount of historic architecture (especially in various neighborhoods), grittiness, natural assets, diversity, variety and coolness of transportation options, the classiness of downtown, cultural institutions, local music.

I like many many cities, but I will do the top 5 world cities; incidentally they are cities I'd love to live.

1) Vancouver - Asian Food, wonderful multi-culture, NY urban grit/feel/look in downtown; global city
2) Osaka - Awesome city in every regard, Vancouver's Fraternal Twin, global city, un-pretentious
3) Chicago - World City, awesome attractions. the Big City, yet approachable; New York's Fraternal Twin. Will be moving to Chi soon!!!!
4) SF - something about SF, I can't really pin it down tho, one of the triplets with the same mommy (Vancouver, Osaka, SF)
5) New York - nothing to say. THE CITY

Honourables:

Kyoto, great old city with modern changes but I like Osaka better b/c its bigger.
DC, I used to live here and had a great time despite the conservativeness of the most powerful residents
Tokyo, but I think Osaka is better!! Tokyo seemed rather pretentious 'acting', even though its got it all
Seattle/Portland, pretty much the same. Currently reside in SEATTLE.
LA was nice but way too mush sprawl and people who dont get along
Nagoya, not bad but seems like they trying to 'proove' something
OKC, getting much better than its past rep but see LA, wonderful people tho

Houston was cool, but see LA. Very International!!

Cities I still want to visit (and prob will make the list)

Kaohsiung, Taipei - GO TAIWAN!!!
Shanghai - I love Chinese girls
Singapore - the other fraternal quad twin of Vancouver/Osaka/SF, with a dad from China
Seoul, Busan - Korean girls are awesome too!!!
Hong Kong - something about the place just gives me energy and shivvers
Puket, Pattaya, Bankok - Did I mention that I LOVE asian girls??

Sorry NYC I have not been there yet. Also sorry Boston, Philadelphia and Washington DC. The east cost and New England I have just not made it to yet. My wife wants to go to Cape Cod and Martha’s V. soon though.

But the US, Canadian and International cities I have made that did not make the list, sorry...

LA, San Diego, Denver, Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, Seattle, Denver, Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Atlanta, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Anchorage, Fairbanks, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Little Rock, Des Moines, Omaha, Milwaukee, Madison and most of Wisconsin, Detroit and most of Michigan including the UP, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Nashville, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Winnipeg, Panama City, Cartagena, Cancun, Venice, Florence, Dublin, Cork, Galway, Milan, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Reno, Lake Tahoe, ectal.....

About 1/3 get honorable mention. You guys can decide which metro deserves attention.

I would really like to go to AU/NZ and Hawaii some day, and of course back to EU.

I haven't travelled extensively, so this list is going to be biased to Western NA

1. San Francisco
2. Vancouver
3. Los Angeles
4. Houston

Don't really have any other major cities that I could pick for #5 ATM.

Honourable mentions go to Victoria, Salt Lake, and San Diego because I enjoyed my stays which were, however, too short to really gauge how much I liked them.

Edmonton is excluded being my birth city. Calgary because it is my home city. Seattle because I have only really passed through, twice. Same goes for Portland, though I only went through there once.

The list will almost certainly change by the end of the summer, if I make my trip to Eastern Canada. What I'm expecting is for Toronto to take up the #3 spot and Montreal the #4 spot, bumping Houston off the list.

It'd be very hard to rank them, but i'll pick five of my favorites, in no particular order:

2. Lima

Yikes! If I were to put together a list of worst cities I have ever been to, Lima would definetly be number one.

My favorites:
1. Vancouver
2. Paris: Wonderful architecture and atmosphere.
3. Tokyo: Hyper-urban experiance
4. Rio De Janeiro: Definitively the world's most beautiful city. Way too many social problems to even come close to number one.
5. La Paz: Didn't get too much time to explore it, but a very beautiful city again (in a different way) and it felt much safer than Rio or Lima. Minus points for the elevation.

2) New York - #2 because of the end of #1.

For the U.S.:

1. Portland, OR
2. Chicago, IL
3. San Fransisco
4. Boston
5. Baltimore

Ok, well I lived in Portland for a while, but it was a few months out of my 23+ years...I've been to most major U.S. cities, but one city I haven't visited that I have a feeling could make my list is Seattle. My runners up would be Milwaukee and D.C. Btw, glad to see some votes for Omaha and K.C.

4. Ljubjlana
5. Split, Croatia
