Carlos or anyone that knows, what is the current height and floor where on? if this was recently asked i apologize I didnt see it.

Floor 68. Two Jumps Left.

I don't know the official height, but were either at the 900 mark or a little short of it.

EDIT- From what I'm Hearing, The cranes have been jumped. 1 Jump left.

They are on floor 71 now actually, 918 ft. There will be 2 jumps left for 72/72M and for the parapet....

Judging from Carlos's picture we have floor 72 and 72M being raised. After this jump is finished then we would only have one more jump, and that would be the parapet. The topping off ceremony is most certainly somewhere in June.

I could be wrong about this, but if you look at that one high piece of steel that is sticking up, isn't that piece at roof level? So doesn't that mean T4 is topping out? And status of thread should be changed to T/O? Or do we have to wait until the entire roof level is completed?

Not really. They still need to finish the parapet and the other two floors. The final steel beam being put in place is the topping off ceremony. So it isn't topping off till the last steel beam goes up.

-Is 4 World Trade Center Better Than the Big One? Inside the Other Tower About to Top Out-
By Matt Chaban 6/12 8:00am

"If it were possible for a skyscraper to quietly rise nearly a thousand feet into the sky with little notice, 4 World Trade Center would be the building to do it. It is not simply that its big brother across ground zero is stealing all the attention, though it is. When 1 World Trade Center tops out at the end of the week, following a Flag Day ceremony led by President Barack Obama, it will be another milestone for the site, one of the last. When 4 World Trade Center achieves the same fate sometime next month, will anyone notice? If not, that would be a shame, because this may well be the nicer of the two.

That a 977-foot tower has gone unnoticed is partly the point. Designed by Japanese architect Fumihiko Maki, 4 World Trade Center has a quiet splendor hidden within its still skin. Across the way, 1 World Trade Center is stolid, impenetrable, a symbol of recovery but also defensiveness. Seeing it now, from JFK or the Jersey Turnpike, a hole in the skyline filled, is thrilling, but like the original Twin Tower, 1 World Trade Center still imposes itself on the skyline. By contrast, 4 World Trade Center becomes a part of it.

Part of this comes from simple gestures, like the iridescent glass that makes the building disappear into the clouds, or the almost platonic geometries of the structure. And while the building may not have captured the notice of New Yorkers, tenants are keen on the building, with a number of them close to deals ranging from one floor to six or more, according to Silverstein Partners.

In a decade or more, when the entire site is finished, it will be a triumph, especially if each of the four towers can stand out as their own. One World Trade Center will certainly be the head of the family, while 4 World Trade will be the beautiful daughter everyone secretly adores."

No, not finished yet, not by a longshot. Even if the structure has topped out (itself debatable) there is still MUCH work to be done to the tower before it is finished.

Just going by the old renderings, it looks like the completed height should be around the level of the cab of the setback crane. So, I agree with others who say there's one more level (parapet) to go.

I Hope the ropes on (US Steel??? Whence the name change?) One Liberty Plaza are meant to address a *long* overdue exterior cleaning. It looks like crap from a *distance* and now I see this.
Shameful. They could take the time out to demolish DeutscheBank piecemeal over many months. Surely they could've done something here in the meantime. Shameful.

On topic: This baby's looking broader than I thought on the skyline. The glass, especially when it gets cleaned, gives Downtown a gleaming visual element it should've gotten a long time ago.

US Steel was the original name when that building opened! :)

The U.S. Steel Building was built in 1972 for the U.S. Steel Company on a site earlier occupied by the Singer Building.

The Singer Building was the world’s tallest building at 612 feet when it was built in 1908.

The building’s name changed to 1 Liberty Plaza when the United States Steel company relocated.

The building was bought by Merrill Lynch, then Olympia & York, and most recently Brookfield Financial Properties.

Now..back to this baby U/C! :)

A ‘Dematerializing’ 4 World Trade Center Reaches a Material 977 Feet
By DAVID W. DUNLAP
http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2012/06/25/blogs/20120625TowerSlide-slide-B9GQ/20120625TowerSlide-slide-B9GQ-blog480.jpg

A steel beam is to be hoisted 977 feet to the top of 4 World Trade Center on Monday, ceremonially signifying the completion of its structural framework.

Wait a minute. Four World Trade Center?

Yes, 4 World Trade Center: the biggest skyscraper New Yorkers have never heard of. That’s not only because a much bigger companion, 1 World Trade Center, has claimed the city’s attention. It is because the architects, Maki and Associates of Tokyo, have deliberately designed their tower to be understated and deferential. They are, in other words, not disappointed by a lack of buzz.

“We like the idea of the building dematerializing,” said Osamu Sassa, the project architect for the Maki firm. It is headed by Fumihiko Maki, 83, who won the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1993, but has been little known in this country until recently.

“A lot of inherently good qualities of design take time to appreciate,” Mr. Sassa said. “Subtlety extends one’s appreciation.”

In his design for 4 World Trade Center, Mr. Maki embraced the idea that an office tower at ground zero ought to be a respectful backdrop to the National September 11 Memorial. Because of the modesty and reticence of the building’s design, it was easy to overlook it in 2006 when the it was unveiled by Silverstein Properties alongside those of the far more expressive 2 and 3 World Trade Center, by Norman Foster and Richard Rogers.

At the small scale of models and renderings, 4 World Trade Center didn’t turn many heads. It looked like a silvery extrusion of a trapezoid atop a parallelogram. But as its aesthetic restraint has assumed full scale, it has taken on a dignified monumentality.

That is, when you can see it at all. From some angles, at certain times of day, 4 World Trade Center almost disappears from the downtown skyline. That’s quite a feat for a structure that will be the sixth tallest building in New York on completion next year.

To achieve this effect, the Maki firm designed an especially sheer curtain wall over the steel framework. Glass facades often look cheap because developers will pay only for windows so thin that they bow slightly, creating a quilted effect. The thicker the glass, the flatter the plane of the facade. “It’s not absolutely perfect,” Mr. Sassa said candidly about the curtain wall at 4 World Trade Center, “but I think we’ve achieved something of high quality.”

Even in its raw form, the building shows many refined touches. Mechanical louvers on the lower floors, for instance, are arranged as thin vertical slits, an aesthetic gesture that took a lot of complicated engineering to achieve. There are no louvers at all on the west facade, overlooking the memorial. That made the ductwork even more tortuous.
http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2012/06/22/blogs/20120625TowerEmbed3/20120625TowerEmbed3-blog480.jpg
“This is a special place with a sacred meaning,” Mr. Sassa said, “and we felt we had to be respectful.” The office lobby of 4 World Trade Center also faces the memorial and reflects it at the same time, in a 47-foot-high wall of Swedish black granite that was finished in Carrara, Italy. The Church Street side of the tower will be a much livelier transit hall and shopping center, in keeping with the commercial surroundings.

Silverstein already has two large office tenants, the city and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, accounting for just over half of the building’s 2.3 million square feet of space. Each tenant is expected to occupy 15 floors in the 72-story tower. The construction manager is Tishman Construction, which built the original World Trade Center. The structural engineers, Leslie E. Robertson Associates, were also involved in the first twin towers. The $1.67 billion cost of 4 World Trade Center is being met through Liberty Bond financing and insurance proceeds.

The Japanese architects insisted on a level of detail and near-perfection that frequently perplexed and frustrated their American counterparts. But not all of their many subtle touches were purely in the interest of aesthetic clarity.

For example, deep notches were created in the two broad angles of the tower’s parallelogram shape to help define the edges of the facade. “The added benefit,” Mr. Sassa said with a smile, “was that it increased the number of corner offices.”

Final steel beam going up at 4 World Trade Center

The final steel beam is going up at Four World Trade Center Monday.

Developer Larry Silverstein is expected to join construction workers at a ceremony on Monday to mark the milestone for the building at the corner of Liberty and Greenwich streets. The inside of the building is still under construction.

The building is the sixth tallest in New York City, at 977 feet and 72 stories. The building will be home to offices, stores and the Port Authority's new headquarters.

Wow, such criticism here! :sly:

This tower is very simple in design, which shows respect for the original twin towers (which were also very simple in design as well).

While I agree that it's not a showpiece - it does show respect for what was lost without screaming, "look at me, I'm tall" -- it is tall, much taller than most of the surrounding towers outside of the WTC complex.

The value of this particular tower is that it's unique. The other towers are screaming for your attention.

Perhaps a nice colorful lighting scheme at night would help anchor this tower much better with the complex.

Once all four towers are complete, then this tower will really shine. You will then understand the impact it truly has on the skyline as a part of something big (and that's a good thing).
