Reaching street level eh? awesome!

I seriously think this is one of the most underestimated buildings in the country, It may be significantly shorter than 1 WTC but this building is absolutely HUGE, in floor plate I mean, and it's 975 feet tall, which is quite large too. This thing will be a giant for sure.

*The following information was last updated on September 10, 2009.

-Foundation work including steel and concrete installation; substructure to grade by mid-October 2009

-Tower crane was installed in early March 2009; second (mobile) crane to be used starting in September 2009

-Overnight utility work on Liberty Street is ongoing through fall 2009

-Vehicular Security Center construction in tower substructure

The memorial is scheduled to be completed, or be partially completed by the 10th anniversary of the attacks in 2011. This tower should be close to completion by that date.

Silverstein has mentioned 2014 for this tower to be complete. But look at the BofA tower, that's not scheduled to be "completed" until sometime next year.

Well to me, when a tower has topped out and the cladding is somewhat done(like at Goldman Sachs), Then it's pretty much 'completed' in my book.

Why is it so dark on the lower levels? Aren't there construction lights or something?

When a skyscraper tops out on a skyline, for practical purposes such as that it's done. For example, the Freedom Tower won't be completed until 2013, but we should see at op out there sometime in 2011 as well. It won' be completed, but there would be dominance back on the lower Manhattan skyline.

I think that they were referring to the concrete core, which the forms were waiting for the sublevels to catch up. Probably for steel cage, or structural steel, which I have not seen so far.

The tower's been funded, so it shouldn't see any delays besides weather.

Q. What’s the problem?
A. You have a bureaucracy at the Port, and their mind-set is different from private enterprise. Anytime there’s a delay, they just change the schedule; anytime there’s an increase in costs, they increase the budget. As a private entrepreneur, I can’t function that way. We should have been much farther along.
Tower 4 is already at street level. Unfortunately, at the present pace of construction our building will be finished two years before the infrastructure is in place, the infrastructure that the Port’s obligated to do. So by virtue of that, we’re going to have to stop.

The full article is even better. Hopefully the arbitration works out for the best.

Dac150
Oct 10, 2009, 8:56 PM
There really is no point in building this tower right now if the infrastructure work will not be in place to accommodate it upon completion. With that said the PA needs to get their act together in developing in full the infrastructure work that they are obligated to put in place.

As much as I want to see all of this completed, it needs to be done so in the right fashion.

Dac150
Oct 10, 2009, 8:57 PM
And yes, hopefully the arbitration case will work in his favor. With that kind of capital locked in will mean a whole new ballgame in the development of the remainder of the site.

The PA are going to have to get that infrastructure in place whether the towers get built or not. They say they are doing just that, but we'll see. In the meantime, Silverstein is just taking his stance for the arbitration. He has a pretty good chance of winning his case becuase the PA has been the cause of several delays, which is why he won the first arbitration. Being that this tower would also serve as a PA headquarters, you would think both parties would want to expedite the matter.

I really like this building, I say that because I hear a lot of complaints about it being just a box, but i think it's one of the sleekest sexiest boxes i've ever seen, i mean the original WTC were boxes, so is sears to some extent, lots of great buildings are.

when will they start building the floors out?

My understanding is that one of the last pours for the "ground floor" was today. I have to assume the core is going to go up a level (it's certainly framed to) before the first floor starts going up. Beyond that, not sure. It won't be terribly long now if they are actually going to start building this and not divert resources to the subfloors of the other towers.

I predict that the Japanese penchant for extreme quality in the details will produce what might well turn out to be, artistically, the most admirable tower in the entire WTC.

Only if they're planning to ship the steel and materials from Japan, along with the construction workers, but I don't think you'd get that past the union.

An American construction crew cannot replicate the work that they'd do in Japan.

It may not. Once 1 WTC reaches the regular floors, it will rise at the same speed as this tower. Seeing as 1 WTC only has 4 layers of irregular floors, and they're getting started on the second layer now, this tower would somehow need to build out the first dozen stories or so quicker. It may not happen because this building has a different base than the tower as well. We'll see. If it is going to happen, it will be in a few months.

Not only that, there's a new red and white Crawler Crane backing onto the steel above the PATH's concourse level. I don't know if it's for the South Pool or Tower 4, because they said that a second crane would be arriving around this time at Silverstein Properties.

How's the floor construction going to work? Week by week like One World Trade Center?

It almost seems unreal to me that things are happening here. For so long it was a pit, and now, it is rising. I'm not sure exactly how to explain myself...

It will be so strange to see the one of the tallest building in the city rise. I never got to see that in my lifetime, tall buildings just always seemed to be there. I just imagine this incredible sight of a new powerhouse arising on the skyline, with panes of glass being lifted into place, as steel rises, and men work like ants all around, a shell of activity, until one day, the structure is complete. It's incredible to think that here, there will some day be serenity, at last, after years of constant movement, which glows at night and shines in the day, a testament to human achievement.

And 1 WTC will be even better!

Yeah, tall buildings just always seemed to be there. But now, we are starting to see so many skyline altering towers under construction and taking shape. Gone will be the image of the old skyline from the last century, the new New York is taking shape right before our eyes.

As for the WTC:

Are you sure? I'd say only for Tower One now, But nothing much happened / happening on Tower 4 lately, or am I wrong?

Looks like Tower 4 is slightly On - Hold or Something.

I think I've metioned this before, but my uncle is currently working on this project (yes, he's right down there in the pit bending rebar) and according to him, everything is going ahead as projected. There is nothing to worry about.

sorry about my desperate post! it's just that there are so many threads to read and watch, and constantly get onto the preferred ones, and watch the things are going slowly, or seeing it almost looking the same for some time, get on my nerves, i just want to watch it rising fast, like i guess everybody wants to... ok, i've already read some pages back... so the thing is now between PA and Silverstain... well, hope this gets solved quickly now, and to second that great duffstuff's post, it will be our time to watch this great building and the others around, that will make some part of history stayed in our memories, for us as fans watching pictures, as for local new yorkers to watch new giants making shadows, making more cold those streets, but giving more vitality to the city, specially to this famous area... i just want to go back to nY and see all this new projects that i've been following thru these years, as i did 3 years ago, when i visited ny, and see in person projects like hearst tower...
ok, sorry again for those anoying posts about the slow progress, is just part of the frustration on not getting more height on this one... cheers..

I wasn't trying to sound mean, I literally meant you should try reading the thread. Pretty much everything that's known to the public has been discussed to death here.

I keep reading this tread over and over, but it just doesn't make any sense to me.

First it's this, then it's that, Next week it's something else. Just build the damn thing, what's so difficult?

Larry Silverstein & PA, Infrastructure bla bla bla....

What's going on?

At the end of the day, Tower 4 just seems to be another slowstarter afterall.

Isn't it just all about financings?

Remeber how Tower 4 was shooting out of the ground??

(So: One Step Forward, Two Steps Back..)

I'm Sorry, I am a Huge ''New York City Skyline Fan'', and i just want to see This Tower Rise, like everyone else does.

New Skyline has a highly valuable point! I, as a Manhattanite pay my taxes. And as a real New Yorker, I believe my city and my neighbors, my city's residents are being cheated out of valuable time and resources! Enough beating a live bush and killing it dead over and over again! I have had enough with the dead end bureaucracy and the ragingly nerve splitting politics! MY New York deserves a Lower Manhattan fitting of its global image; a beacon of hope, freedom and wealth for the world to see!
