On wikipedia there's a entry for 'Most Expensive Street's by City',
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_expensive_streets_by_city
It's probably going to be deleted as it has no sources and no explanation of what 'most expensive street' really means. But I thought the idea was interesting. I'm wondering what the most expensive street in Calgary might be, and what criteria might be used to determine such. Some possibilities:
- lot value (problem: most expensive would likely not be a residential street, whereas the aim here is for residential)
- lot or sq footage value of the entire street (problem: long streets would win out here easily)
- lot or living space sq footage value on a per km basis (problem: if the full street length is 25% condo and 75% open field, even if the 25% is the most expensive area in the city, the low value rest of it will average it out).
Thoughts?

Mount Royal? Pump Hill? Somewhere in the deeper SW? Maybe Aspen?

Riverdale Ave, or Britannia Dr., and anything else really in that immediate area would be possible contenders as a lot of those properties are in multi-million dollar range.

Problem with saying Elbow Drive is that its so long that theres probably more 'lower' price homes then 'higher' price homes on it. Otherwise yeah. If we restricted it to certain segments (26th down to Glenmore only, for example), it would probably be quite a bit higher compared to the full length.

That's the assessed value as determined by the City of Calgary.

At one point, the most expensive home in the city was built in 1999/2000 in Pump Hill by Ledcor...rumoured to be the residencce of Alfred Balm.
Not sure what the house cost to build (it was rumoured over $10 million back then), and from what I was told at the time, two neighbouring multi-million dollar homes were torn down to fit this gigantic house on the combined 2.8 acre lot.
The city has it assessed at $21 million now, and it's 15,000 sq ft.
Hard to make out from this Google Earth image, but you can see the outline of the house and garage.

Not if they're outside the city limits they shouldn't. Anything outside of the city limits is not Calgary per se. The title of the thread afterall is Most expensive street in Calgary based on Wikipedia's "Most Expensive Streets By City.

That house is AMAZING! When it was being built one of my buddies was the night security gaurd. He would let us in to roam the place. UNREAL There is also a par 3 golf hole in the backyard along with a ten car underground parkade.

Sounds like one helluva good security guard!;)

hahah yeah! It was pretty funny because the whole security team was in awe of this place. We only saw it in the construction stages most of the finishing wasn't complete but MAN was it a posh palace.

maybe most expensive street they mean retail? there is usually a lit of streets like new yorks 5th avenue or londons bond street out each year that shows how much stores rent per square foot

I think a reasonable way to do it might be to say most expensive street, in one community, so for say Elbow Drive, just consider which community has the most expensive stretch, and do it average per sq ft or whatever.

Theres categories for both retail and residential. Most of the numbers appear to be basing it off not the average of all properties, but the street that has the highest absolute values.
For retail it would probably be one of Stephen ave, or 17th ave, especially if we use the above basis to decide.

I'll be snapping some pics sometime this week, ironically that street is one I've earmarked for pics as it's one of the few streets south of the river to have been developed turn of the century.

This may make me sound ameteur, but wouldn't Bowdale Crescent NW be one of the more expensive, yet overlooked streets in Calgary?
mersar

It's up there, most expensive assessments I see in there are ~1.2m (and some as low as 250k). Having those scrapyards in there probably doesn't help much with the property values though.

Others include Prospect Ave and Sydenham Road in Upper Mount Royal (and neighbouring streets). The odd place goes for 6 digits but most are above 2 or 3 million. Including a $5.24 million 6500 sq ft house on a 21,600 sq ft lot.
Nice!

What about Bel Aire? I know it has the highest aveage priced houses in Calgary. One is on the market for $12,000,000. There are a few large sized lot backing onto the CGCC.
