I dont think reginas population will reach 250000 by 2010. Saskatchewan isnt big enough to support two large cities. And Saskatoon already has a metropolitan population of 233000. So no, I dont think regina will ever reach that kind of population.

well there could be a chance that white city, balgonie, other small towns will be apart of regina by then. If so, that would add another 4,300 (white city, balgonie, pilot butte population altogether) to the existing population. but still there is a small chance the pop. will hit 250,000.:(

Unless Antonio Delfim Nato resurfaces in the Land of Living Skies and brings the Brazilian Miracle with him, there is absolutely no way Regina even comes anywhere near 250,000. I'd be willing to bet they have difficulty eclipsing 200,000 (in the city proper). Saskatoon, maybe, but even then. 2010 is a mere 4 years away with 2007 already in full stride. I wish Regina well, I really like the city, but 250,000 is a very "out there".
With that said, the people of Regina have great passion about their city that I wish Winnipeg had. They are very proud of what they have and very optimistic as a whole about their future.

Well, depends on the strides they make toward the goal, I would imagine. It was a ridiculous goal in the first place, though. I'd be curious to know what the actual population is at right now? The census numbers we have are from last year, and I'd be willing to bet that those numbers are rising faster than they were before.

Branny,
At the the very most the increase is double at best, meaning 400 per year added, not the 200 from last census. Still far from being able to reach the "goal".
Using population growth of twice, an optimistic number, the 10 year average, brings us to 1,600 new residents by 2010 or close to 180,000 population. Missing the goal by 28%, if Fiacco was still at Direct West and missed his sales goals by nearly 30%, how long would he be in that job ?

I never said it would be anywhere near what was needed to reach 250,000...I was just curious! If you take into account more people moving in and less people moving out, I just wondered what the numbers look like now compared to a year ago.
Again, with the goals...I suppose it would depend on whether or not they were his goals or the company's goals. It also depends on how realistic those goals are...You can't totally compare the two. If your boss set ridiculous goals like that for you, what would you think? And your boss surely wouldn't fire you for not reaching some wacky goal that you set on your own. I'm not trying to fight with you, I just don't think the two situations are completely interchangeable.
Don't get me wrong, I've got issues with some of the things the mayor is doing or has done...but overall, I think he's done a pretty good job. I look at where this city is today and how far we've come and I'm optimistic about the future. I think his biggest asset is that people can relate to him...he's a very nice person who is approachable and open and I think that goes a long way with "regular folk". And let's face it, no matter how big this city gets, not matter how corporate it becomes, most of us are just that...regular people. There's nothing wrong with that, either.

How has Regina gotten better since 2000 ? I would say that many things are worse, other then the "I'm OK, You're OK" fanatics.
On a side note, the "Vision for Regina"was instigated by Fiacco and agreed upon by Council. The only boss these 11 have are the voters every 3 years. The administration can not dictate anything only advise and recommend.

I am going to have to agree with Quimby on this one, Fiacco should be embarrassed by even thinking the city will reach 300k by 2010. I could see some SSP'er make that claim, but the mayor?? A vision statement including a goal of 250,000 by 2010 is not out of line at all. For one, Fiacco likely made that vision when he took office...so it's not like he made it yesterday.
Second...IT'S A VISION STATEMENT PEOPLE. I don't think anyone here knows what a bloody vision statement.
Go check the vision statements of all the companies in the world...see how many vision statements are realistic, or even specific. Vision statements are "dream statements"...it's where you would like to see the company/city go.

Probably not. But it doesn't have to, really - a better target would be quality of life improvements for the people already living here. Like better transit, more arts and culture and libraries, livelier downtown, that sort of thing. If you really really need numerical targets, how about things like bus frequency or library availability or theatre shows and concerts or sports facilities opening hours, etc. Things that would actually mean something to people than "I'm citizen 248 538 of 250 000, woo hoo."

There is nothing about this city that makes me want to whine, bitch, moan, cry, and complain like you do on a daily basis but thats obviously all you got in your repetoire.
Any why doesn't it surprise me that you'd whine about the renovations and expansion of our exhibition grounds that brings in millions of dollars into the city each and every year. I bet you'd be more pleased with giving lazy and willingly unemployeed people more handouts.
This is post outlines the epitome of Fiaccoists, unbashedly greedy and have fooled themselves into believing they did everything for themselves. These people are the leaders of the city's intolerance movement and the foundation of the flight of over half the people migrating. It is this attitude that holds Regina back, not a to9lerant attitude and a critical eye. Yes, we have better things to spend our money on then the Ex.

Jesus Christ Rosie, now your really going off the deep end.
And I find it hilarious that you say that its people like me that is holding Regina back when every second post all you do is belittle the city and its people (just like you did above in this quote). Your an embarrasment Quimby and everyone other than yourself knows that. So how about you run for mayor next time and see how well you do...........:haha:

Yes it is ignorant people like you, that can not take an ounce of criticism and proclaim that anyone that disagrees is negative. There have been many, many regimes in history with same attitude and their success rate is woeful. You, like many of your ilk, have lost touch with reality. There used to be a time when people could speak their minds and have an opinion, you Fiaccoists are on a mission to destroy any disagreement. Try reading a few books by Dr. Florida, it might give you a clue.

Like I've already said numerous times, I have zero problem with criticism but with you its 99% negative. You'd swear Fiacco took a leak on your daisies or something like that. Being from another city and reading your posts, I'm pretty sure a good portion of people believe that Regina ranks right up there with Beirut. I am not the type of person who bitches and complains just for the sake of being heard and that is what you are doing. And you say I have lost touch with reality.....good lord my silly little friend, seek professional help stat.

Actually criticism by definition is negative, so that would be 100%.

Jesus Christ Quimby, if you don't like this city move the fuck out of it. Day after day you have nothing positive to add other than bending over and inserting your head up your own ass. But then again your so fucking dumb that you probably enjoy the warmth.
Quimby your always welcome in Winnipeg. :D

Hey cyber-bully Migs !
Since your scared to settle this disagreement with the bet, you brought up, and you have the intellectual capacity of a doughnut. You want to settle this the old fashioned way ? Boxing, wrestling, MMA, debate ???
Name the place, time and date. I'll be there, with bells on (literally).

Except we are the Chlamydia capital of Canada.
Okay, extend the deadline. Cull the infected and then start going at it.
