Myself and my friend decided to take a day trip to Hamilton, Canada's Steeltown for Doors Open Hamilton, which is an annual event when buildings open their doors to the public. We met up with some of the forumers and had a nice time touring the buildings. Here are some pics I took. Sorry if the pics are not the best. The sun was a little to bright.
Anyway enjoy a quick little look at Steeltown Hamilton.

James Street, Downtown Hamilton. Before the advent of malls, this was one of one of the major streets to come and shop and spend the day on. It then went into decline, and is now reviving as a centre of art for Hamilton. Many art galleries have opened up and there are now Art Crawl's on Friday evenings.

James Street is also home to Hamilton's Portugese and Italian community, with many ethnic stores.

In addition to Doors Open there was also the little MAYDAY festival going on in downtown Hamilton along Price William Blvd. Here a girl is painting on a art project that is part of the festival on the abandoned Lister Building.

Hamilton has new buses running along King Street, the main route. Hamilton is planning to improve transit services, with more limited stop bus services, and more comfy buses like this bus. The Hamilton transit system is called "The Hamilton Street Railway". They kept the historical name eventhough there are only buses.

An evening stroll on King Street, downtown Hamilton. When you are looking at this picture, I want you to remember that Downtown Hamilton is considered one of the most blighted and troubled downtowns in Canada. The thing I find interesting, is that despite King Street(what use to be the main shopping and entertainment heart of the city) having vacant storefronts, and not good shopping at all, the street is still full of people taking a stroll through the downtown. This is downtown King Street at like 6PM on a Saturday.
