The Golden Gate Bridge is Art Deco greatness - it impressed me big time. The two towers are massive when you see them up close and personal and the bridge itself is monsterous and looms high over the Bay. We drove around Golden Gate National Recreational Area (which was amazing - half of it was some sort of old Army community or something along those lines - possibly protecting the Bay area during WWII?) and then headed back to the San Francisco side of the bridge, and walked it over once and back. Like I said, if you've never done it, I highly recommend it - but be forewarned: if you thought the San Francisco mainland was cold and breezy - nothing compares to the intensity on the bridge. So don't pull a me and wear only shorts and a t-shirt.

What an absolutely incredibly beautiful bridge it is! And with the gorgeous scenery all around, it just doesn't get much better than that. :)

This deserves more responses...great pics! I never tire of seeing the Golden Gate Bridge, even after living in SF my whole life. Of course I'm used to seeing it, but I'm probably still in just as much awe as any tourist whenever i get up close...the bridge itself is amazing, but the setting makes it all the more great.

^ Funny, I was just thinking this same thought today as I drove over it. After a lifetime of driving over that bridge countless times, it still gives me a sense of awe and wonder. Some of that is the surrounding landscape, but the bridge itself is just such a work of art. It never loses the magic.
