Oh for sure, they want the goodwill. Branding the building, probably not, they don't deal with your everyday joe. They will try and increase goodwill with some that believe they wreck the environment. They have built one of the most environmental efficient buildings. From an purely economic standpoint though this was not a good building to build. I'm 99% sure when we see what imperial oil builds it will be a glass box nothing inspiring. They will go for a building from a pure economic perspective.

Not for the public.
That's dissapointing - In San Francisco, the Bank of America building has a lounge up on the 52nd floor open to the public, and the Bow would be such a neat place to have one here. ::tup:

Personally, I'm much more excited to see the public art by Jaume Plensa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaume_Plensa) outside than any view from inside the building. You'll get a good idea of what the atrium is like from the main floor anyway, which will be open to the public. Plus the view of the Bow from the Calgary Tower is virtually unobstructed and from one of the most flattering angles.

12th Floor. If you stood on top of the current highest floor in place you would be standing on the future 12th floor. The columns stick 2 or 3 feet higher then that.
I suspect that the first columns that reach up to the 15th floor may be installed next week. The columns are all three stories tall. If you were counting by the spacing of the floors, the bottom two floors take up the space of three regular floors.

This project is freakin!! love it!, and love Calgary too!!... i know this is a bit of topic but does anyone know of some big construction companies in Calgary that regulary build high rise buldings etc? i know 4 main ones, PCL, GRAHAM, CANA, and ELLIS DON. I really want to move to Calgary in the fall, im 18 yrs old from saskatoon and i just don't enjoy living here and im looking to do my carpentry apprenticeship with any big construction company. I have already 1800 hours training as a carpenter here with a small company. If someone could give me some advice or help that would be great thanks!! bc i really want to live here!

Yep, the parkade stretches below the roadway and fills both blocks.
The middle crane has been jacked up quite a bit recently, enough to do 6 floors I'd say.

If you feed it, it will happen. What my parents thought was cheap entertainment for a curious kid at the time turned into a college and university degree later, and lots of begging and borrowing money (0% interest!) so I could upgrade to the fancy KD (really to upgrade from Lucky to Molson but that's my story and I'm sticking to it). It was first the saddledome construction, then Expo 86 specifically skytrain, then the construction for the 88 winter games, specifically the LRT and Oval, bankers hall east, and Lego. Lots of Lego.

It will indeed look like exactly a 60 story building when finished - 10 sections that appear to be 6 stories tall. The top two mechanical floors take up the space of 4 floors, and the bottom two floors take up the space of 3, bringing the total to its finished 57 floors.

The tower looks promising. I have family in Calgary, and if I ever visit them I'd love to see this thing when it's done.
Of course, the chances of me visiting the family are slim... we're not close at all. Great-Grandpa left the farm in 1920 and came down here to the Great State of WA... his other 4 brothers stayed. And then they found oil on their land in the 70s.

If it's not too much trouble, I'm curious which projects are the various other visible cranes, in the view from your place.

The walkway is likely to help erect columns. The cantilevered platform could be a way of keeping any bolts that may fall down from hitting someone working on the ground, or it could be some kind of work platform too.

The curve is what really plays tricks on making it look huge, or small, depending on the angle. The floorplate is about 30,000 square feet (based on the raft slab the building sits on, actual floors are less due to the gap between the diagrid wall and the floors themselves)

In the parkade, yes (based off what they showed on the tour they did for the news a while back). Above ground, only construction related electrical so far (such as the lights on each floor that you can see in some shots), beyond that it doesn't look like anything has started yet, though that work should be starting soon on the lower floors.

Looks like they've got a good deal of 15 done--that central portion has always been ahead of the rest--but it's no longer just uprights up to 15! It's also easy to spot where that massive steel(that was delivered recently) is being utilized...I'm guessing it's the vertical portion in the exterior X. I like how the better views of The Bow, are getting farther away from the structure, as opposed to right next to it. Enjoying the updates.
I hope The Bow remains the tallest or at least amongst the few tallest for quite some time. On the one hand, if it doesn't, it'll be a testament to the ever-growing, impressive skyline--it's already competetive within the top few in Canada. On the other hand, I consider The Bow to be the new iconic structure of Calgary, and I'd be disappointed to see it disappear in the skyline--dwarfed by other new tallests.

It's really hard to get a good view of The Bow from right next to it, since it is so wide. You have to be about a half-block away or have a really wide-angle lens to get it all in.
I was going to get more updates today, but in my haste to leave the house for an early-morning exam, I ended up leaving my CF card on my desk. :\

Won't be long now. I'm guessing that the walkway they've been building around the outside of the 6th floor is related to the glass work, which I'd guess is probably going to start at that level then move upwards, leaving the lower levels to be done later

This is some kind of alright with the steel frame growing by the hour. Looks ready to start steel work on the next 3 floors - nice!!!
Roughly, how thick will the concrete be on the floor decking??

I've heard people working on the building claiming it will be 3-4" thick depending on the floor. Obviously mechanical floors will be thicker.

It looks to me as though they have started to lay out the rebar on the third floor (above mezzanine). It wouldn't make sense to install glass before the rebar and concrete is down, so I think the plywood on the sixth floor is for something else. They can't do concrete with all the inside scaffolding up in there.

There's something about steel frame construction that really hit's the spot. The Bow is already such a joy to watch progress.

Wow, 1/4 of the way up already!
They are supposed to start pouring concrete soon, I wouldn't imagine they could go much higher as the concrete helps stabalize the building. The Curtain wall will probably have brackets welded to the steel and shouldn't interact with the concrete at all, though as I stated, the lack of stability from the lack of concrete would likely be a factor.

Anybody knows when we're going to start seeing glass on the bow. I can't wait.:)

Does anyone know the exact (or approximate) dimension of the width of the Bow Tower (that would be at it's maximum dimension) ?

Roughly 99m, based on some old images I used to have.

When there are a few more floors lit up like the first 6, that will be mighty pretty to look at during the hours of darkness. That will really light up the downtown core when all 58 floors are lit up.
