I quite like the IFC tower, and the lighting that goes with it. I still prefer the Bow uses different lighting, just because of the type of materials it has. I would prefer some up-lighting (or down-lighting) using traditional warm colors.
I agree though....good lighting on the Bow would give it some world class ooomph. It'll look world class during the day, so why not at night as well.
Huh?
Take a look at all the recent night photos of IFC, before you judge it harshly.
In any picture of the IFC in Guangzhou you are only looking at the colours at one particular instant. You do understand that the colours shift moment to moment, through a computer programme depending on the night, special occasion or effect they wish to convey?
Personally I think the Bow would do quite well emulating the IFC's lighting scheme. It would bring some "World City" oomph to Calgary. It even has a similar sculpture at its base.

the problem was, i couldn't get dry. i can work outside while it is -45, all day long. no problem. at the end of the day, i go home and it is nice and dry and warm. there was no escaping the dampness over there. it just got to me. i guess if you live there you would get accustomed to it. but for me i was use to cold dry winters in Calgary. here in Saskatchewan its much the same. cold and dry. -26 does not even seem that cold. i kind of like it in fact.

Encana leasing office space outside the Bow
Growth to Telus building as well
By Mario Toneguzzi, Calgary HeraldDecember 16, 2010 2:02 PM
CALGARY - Despite its move in 2012 into the massive Bow tower, energy giant Encana (TSX:ECA) is also taking up more space in Calgary's downtown office market.
The Herald has learned that Encana is leasing an additional 300,000 square feet in the Telus building.
The company's growth and its anticipated growth into the future has fuelled Encana's space requirements, said Craig Reardon, vice-president of administration, Canadian division, for Encana.
"Obviously it's right across the street from the Bow," he said. "It's Plus-15 connected and it will allow our employees who are in the Telus building now and in the future to participate in the amenities of the Bow. So it's basically to accommodate our growth strategy."
Encana is currently in six different office buildings in downtown Calgary in about 700,000 square feet.
When the company moves into the Bow, it will be taking up just over 800,000 square feet. Encana will start moving into the Bow in the first quarter of 2012 and expects to be finished its move toward the end of the summer of that year.
The company is also taking on about 300,000 square feet in the Telus building which it will be occupying over the next couple of years.
"We're taking some of it immediately for short-term growth and the remainder will be taken on over the next couple of years," Reardon said.
After the move into the Bow, Encana will still occupy a portion of its space in the Telus building.
When completed, the Bow will add about 1.7 million square feet to the city's downtown office market. Energy company Cenovus will occupy the remainder of the space in the building.
The planned south block of the Bow project, which was to house office, retail and cultural space in about 200,000 square feet, was deferred due to the challenging economic times.
The south block would be a seven-storey complex to be built where the historic York Hotel formerly stood, using bricks taken from the demolished hotel.
"The current development plan with the City of Calgary calls for the start of construction of the south block at the time of occupancy of the north tower. Our plan is to meet those obligations. If this changes we will let Calgarians know," said Michael Brown, associate vice-president of Matthews Southwest, the developer of the Bow project.
Reardon said any proposals for the south block of the Bow project will rest with the owner and the developer.
"There really isn't anything developing on the south block at the moment that's sort of far enough along that we can even speculate as to what will eventually be there," he said.
Greg Kwong, regional managing director for Alberta for CB Richard Ellis Ltd., said he expects construction within the next couple of years to begin on the south block project.
"It's not the office space that's the lead (tenant) in this case. It's that cultural that they need to secure," he said.

Such a great building. How close is it to being topped out?

It's topped out already, too bad it wasn't. I would like another dozen floors more.

This angle looking down 6th is going to provide some great photo ops!

I'm anxious to see the day when all the glass on the north side is done, and to see how the glazing finishes up at the top of the building.
