Ok this is my first try in 25 years at making the beginings of a city. I will add more as I have time. It will also be transferred over to a 15"x15" base one of these days... lol
Long shot

Is the green thing a museum?

You know I hadn't thought about that, but sure it could be. A museum of what I don't know or maybe a botanical gardens.

It looks pretty futuristic (the city), maybe a high tech science center?;)

sure! I was only workign with white bricks tonight because they show off the clear bricks the best. Tomorrow if i get a chance I will begin making more with other colors. If you have any ideas or requests I'm up for anything.
Thanks for the compliments by the way :D

Ok last update of the night. Sleep is a little bit important... lol
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/navyweaxguy/virginia802.jpg
The rainbow building was inspired by that hotel in Waikiki... can't remember the name.

Here is an older gritty building...

nice, all you need is a tall building in the middle.

Its looking good. I like the extensive use of transparent bricks and plates.
Some hopefully constructive suggestions:
1. Get some dark grey or black 2x2 tiles with which to make a street grid.
2. You have white, light grey, and black buildings. An occasional tan, brown, or even red building would add variety.
3. Check out www.bricklink.com
4. If you do get a larger baseplate, you can also put some low-rise buildings on the periphery to create a balanced skyline profile.
Question: does it have a scale? Some buildings use plates and others use bricks for stories (of course some real buildings trick the eye - for example the 40+ story Comerica Tower in Detroit looks like a 20 story building).
Keep on building. I think a city on 4 15x15 baseplates in that scale would look pretty spectacular.

4?? lol I only have 1 and it has a hard back to it. I got it in '79 from a toy store in Beaverton, OR... I think they make the floppy versions now. I really don't have a scale. You are right though I do want to do some smaller buildings. I'm running out of the small transparent bricks.. I will try some things and post some pics later tonight. Thanks for the ideas though! :)

Watch out or i will model you in legos... hahaha
Ok so here they are moved to the new board, plus a big new tower and a small midrise. I added roads... the dark gray streets are the old part of the city.. the black streets are the new part. I added an elevated rail afer i took the pics. Lots of room to expand now :)

Lol, ok i really do have other things i need to do tonight.. so here is the last... unless i get a vision.. lol
So I added a river with a small lake. Next is the yellow government building. The old clear block building is the botanical gardens. The small green and white building at the top left got a mid rise addition. Not there are a whole bunch of multi story row houses along the river. I also swapped a couple of the pencil towers to better locations i think. Along the back of the government building you see the elevated rail line. Lastly there is a tallish twin tower red building next to the Shell Tower.

Its looking nice and dense now.
I suppose the all-blue building with the logo is your city's Air and (classic*) Space Museum?
* The spaceship and planet logo is associated with the first series of space related Lego kits which are now referred to by Lego geeks as "classic space".
navyweaxguy
05-14-2007, 09:35 PM
Yeah most of my legos are old school stuff from the late 70's to early 80's. I raided the lego store in Seattle for the transparent blocks caue the store in DC sucks and doesnt have them. The blue wind shields are from the old space sets too I have a bunch of yellow ones also. Nice catch . :) The angled pieces on the government building are from my first castle, which was yellow.

So i added large medical facility, a huge new tower, lots of small infill. I'm running out of transparent blocks... but, that's ok cause i'm almost out of room any way.

Is the rail thing on the left side of the city supposed to be light rail/monorail type thing? (Runs behind the yellow City Hall building)
navyweaxguy
05-15-2007, 01:59 AM
Its a light rail line. I think i have one more piece of that track i will try to fit in somewhere.
BTW, thanks everyone. It has been alot of fun putting together.

Ok here is the last update. I'm now out of room and almost out of transparent tiles sooooo.. lol That was fun. I may actually take all the buildings off the board and put them on in a different order. I had one friend tell me that a natural disaster should hit the city... not sure i wanna go that route, yet.... lol
Thanks for all the comments :)

Cool. I like those wing designs also. I saw somewhere on the internet a guy who uses them sort of with the same style you've done here. Looks good.
That tall black tower and red one are cool. The small ones are interesting also. I always like seeing what other folks have done with their Legos.

I put all the buildings back on the board without the streets this time to make it a little denser. Well I ran out of buildings with a lot of space. I have a ton of legos but most of my transparent bricks are used here and on the larger town i am working on for my son's electric lego train set.
My stuff isn't even close to as cool of stuff as KFT's city. :)

i got a decent deal cause I got the last train in the store, when they were dropping the electric line or i too wouldn't have gotten into the trains.

The only "train" I have, is that gorgeous model of the Santa Fe engine. Those usually go for $40 a piece. I think they put out another one of the same style, but a different railroad. Anyway, I got mine at a toy resale shop. I bought it along with a bulk bag or two of Legos. I remember coming up short about 4 dollars and the lady there knocking off the price. So...I ended up getting a $40 Lego set for 12 bucks!
If you have any toy resale shops in your town, I'd suggest checking them out for Legos. You can get some sweet deals on just about anything. That's how I've been buying my Legos for the past 15 years is at that shop.

the regular 9v trains... ive heard from a coupel of places that Lego is moving to only having the remote control trains, no more 9v trains. Itsucks.. but oh well.
I haven't found any used toy stores here either... :(

Garage sales are another good place to hunt for Legos. Just go through the classified ads and pick the ones that seem like they might have Legos. By the time kids are in their mid to late teens if they even still have their Legos they're usually willing to let them go for dirt cheap as they're tired of them taking up space.
