Does anyone know of an online resource that breaks down the population of the Beltline? I've seen a quote of 16,662 people in the entire area. What I'm looking for would be a breakdown of what's in Victoria Park, then from Mac Trail to 8th Street, then 8th Street to 14th Street.

Since this is in the same vein as my previous question, I thought I'd post in the same thread. Does anyone know a direct e-mail or phone contact to the Beltline Community Association? I've been working on a concept for a while and I'd really like to get some input from them. It's not exactly a new skyscraper or anything that dramatic, but it would be helpful to speak with them. I'd like to think I've got a decent feel for the community as I just live on the other side of the tracks and spend significant time there, but it would still be nice to get more input.

Josh, are those additional population potential numbers based on developments that are propsed/possibilites at the time of the report? I'm assuming that's the case.

I'm guessing, today the population figure of 17,231 would have to be at least 1000 people more, based on some of the projects that have been completed since 2004.

Yeah, those were done from 2004 even before people had moved into Emerald Stone. The other numbers are maximum possible build out estimates. 55 000 total after a couple of decades.

The population is about to take a very drastic rise. I'd expect to see at least 1500 new residents every year for the next decade.

The beltline is truly an exciting situation. If it grows to even 30,000 within a decade, which is probably a low estimate, that will still be a large number of people. Enough to change alot of things around the area. I'd still like to see a major retail area with theatres, etc.. in the beltline somewhere.

If we can get Mount Royal Equities bulldozed there would be room for theatres on that site.;)

What about something along the CP tracks? or is that land too valuable maybe.

I'd like to see a shopping centre in the Beltline, something with about 60-80 stores, and a bigger store like a Future shop, as well as a ~12 story office building, and a ~25 storey residential tower on top of it.

Part of what I like about the Beltline area is the high percentage of independent businesses. I would not be too happy about seeing a suburban type shopping complex in the area. I have however heard rumours from many months ago that there is a lot of interest in the proposed Railtown area for urban type version of stores such as Costco adn Home Depot. Apparently the Costco store in the Yaletown area of Vancouver is very well integrated into the urban surroundings so much so that you would not even realize that it was there if you weren't looking for it.
