I guess you can never post enough pictures of your city, so here’s some more. I took all these last Saturday on one of my huge picture-taking walks. There’s some random buildings pics, some construction pics and some miscellaneous pics.
Enjoy!!!

I start my journey off a few blocks from my apartment….

This will soon be the ‘Laurier Pub’:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/01-1.jpg?t=1179928429

Quite a pit Xenex has:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/02-1.jpg?t=1179928596

Not too keen on the addition here:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/03-1.jpg?t=1179928645

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/04-1.jpg?t=1179928672

The old Electric Avenue bar:

Old sign poking through:

Future site of Gateway Beltline on the right side of the picture:

Gateway Beltline site again:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/12-3.jpg?t=1179929293

10th Ave has so much potential land to build on:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/09-1.jpg?t=1179929173

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/10-3.jpg?t=1179929338

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/13-3.jpg?t=1179929367

As far as new buildings go in the Beltline, I really like this one:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/14-2.jpg?t=1179929393

This area could have much more potential:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/16-2.jpg?t=1179929454

Future site of a building I can’t quite think of the name of right now:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/15-2.jpg?t=1179929492

Future site of the 999 Building:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/11-3.jpg?t=1179929578

Future site of Astoria:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/17-2.jpg?t=1179929676

Uptown Chic? Umm yeah:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/19-3.jpg?t=1179929715

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/21-2.jpg?t=1179930024

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/18-2.jpg?t=1179929895

Not too many houses left in the area (across 10th Ave from where Luna will be):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/20-2.jpg?t=1179929940

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/22-2.jpg?t=1179930047

Stella/Nova:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/23-2.jpg?t=1179930063

These apartments will make way for Luna eventually:

On the right, buildings soon to be demolished for Kai towers:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/25-2.jpg?t=1179930156

Kai site again:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/26-2.jpg?t=1179930226

Kai site yet again:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/28-2.jpg?t=1179930246

Kai site one more time:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/29-2.jpg?t=1179930261

Sorta like this one. It is unique:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/27-2.jpg?t=1179930315

Used to be a gas station here (built circa 1940s ??) This site would take years to clean up the soil.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/30-2.jpg?t=1179930350

A while ago I heard something could get built on the site where this old brick house sits on. One of the nicer homes in the area left, I say:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/34-2.jpg?t=1179930425

Same house:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/33-2.jpg?t=1179930481

Random building:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/35-2.jpg?t=1179930515

Super Drug Mart:

Bennett glass:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/40-2.jpg?t=1179930780

Lusanne/Montreaux Site (ie: the middle of nowhere):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/37-2.jpg?t=1179930664

L/M site:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/38-2.jpg?t=1179930740

L/M site again:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/39-2.jpg?t=1179930759

Ummm…isn’t that an old rendering for where the President Apartments are (12th and 7th)?:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/42-2.jpg?t=1179930815

Too much stucco:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/43-2.jpg?t=1179930949

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/44-2.jpg?t=1179930975

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/45-2.jpg?t=1179930993

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/46-2.jpg?t=1179931010

That’s a neat little contraption:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/47-2.jpg?t=1179931025

Stampede Pontiac site. This area could see some major redevelopment:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/49-2.jpg?t=1179931326

9th Ave:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/50-2.jpg?t=1179931378

That entrance on the left is looking a little retro these days:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/51-2.jpg?t=1179931609

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/52-2.jpg?t=1179931669

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/53-2.jpg?t=1179931682

Vantage is quite slender from this ‘vantage’:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/54-1.jpg?t=1179931693

Mmm…concrete:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/55-1.jpg?t=1179931721

More retro goodness:

Retro goodness detail:

Some last shots of Penny Lane: :(

Penny Lane and Opus:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/61-1.jpg?t=1179931870

Me thinks this view could be a little different in a few years:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/63-1.jpg?t=1179931892

York:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/67-1.jpg?t=1179931967

Lots of activity happening at the Bow site. It kind of exciting even though they’re just doing utilities stuff:

Great photo thread. I love that building at the end too, especially coupled with the tall Petro towers it makes for quite the contrast.

Can't wait to see much of those beltline buildings demolished in favor of bigger, better things.

Laurier Lounge, actually- and good for them, replacing that tired, tired "Michelangelo's" and giving LL some real space and a killer, massive patio. This is going to be great.

LL is in the same building as the now-departed Purr on 17th- is that block being demolished too? Anyone?

I heard the former Purr building will be demolished.
Which makes me think a new development would encompass the block from 8th Street to where Purr is now. That would be a pretty huge site.

I wonder what the Purr building looks like if all the metal cladding was removed. It's a pretty old building...

WTF? Purr is gone? What kind of bullshit is that? are they relocating on 17th?

I guess it is being gobbled up into that development that is spanning to the corner of 8th street?

Nice tour.

I don't fancy it that much. I suppose it could have been a lot worse, but I liked the building by itself better.

Just for the record, I like the addition to the Royop building. Looks funky. I wish we had more of those kind of buildings.

I actually dont mind it, I kinda like buildings that are hybrids of old and new styles, like the Shaw building. And it's more or less tacked on, so if someday someone wanted to reclaim the original, they could just knock it off.

I love this building:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v372/entheos_fog/75-1.jpg?t=1179932151

I love that building too, but man the pink granite glued on the columns at street level to match the towers behind.. is just hideous.

Although much of the redevelopment going on in the Beltline is exciting, I do have some concern about the number of small (and perhaps affordable?) shopspace being ripped out, to be replaced with new space that may only be affordable to chain stores.. if anything Calgary needs more small shop space, not less.

Nice angles! I myself actually like the addition to the Royop Block, I guess it's because it is clearly an addition to an older building and not just a case of historicism.

On its own I like the addition but I hate how it's just plopped on the top. Why does it need to be there? If it was an addition to the side or if it was a stand-alone building, it would be great, but I am in the minority of people it seems that just don't like it. I love the original building however, I'd just like to make that clear

Historicism would be absolute blasphemy...but if that tacked on addition means the building doesn't get torn down, I might be able to live with that thought..
