Mocholate
Jul 1, 2007, 2:16 PM
:haha: thanks Tanster , i started to make an animation simulating a ride of it but it started to take too long :haha:

I did some work on Sydney and i will concentrate on that a bit cos my other one has reached 46mb and sometimes crashes before it even opens
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c297/choppdat/syd.jpg

The bridge(made by ilesoft) , Opera house(jw_n_mo) and the white building(mlc centre-kevin 51340/Jon) is from the warehouse

Peter
Jul 1, 2007, 11:35 PM
your Sydney is looking fabulous  is the bridge to scale? it seems very high! maybe because the terrain? well keep it up!

Mocholate
Jul 1, 2007, 11:42 PM
Hi ,thanks ,, yeah it may be a bit out :haha: , i'll have a check now but it is the worlds tallest bridge arc at 139m over the harbour and it lands onto a hills at both ends , the pillars are a bit wide aswell and the angled bits at the bottom of the pillars ters i dont think exist so i may pull it all apart :D

Mocholate
Jul 2, 2007, 12:01 AM
Yeah , it was too tall but only by 17 m

Peter
Jul 2, 2007, 3:36 AM

Anyone who wants to make a tourism Ad for their SU city use this billboard i put in 3D warehouse and i'll use it at my airport , use both sides and fill the whole of grey part + ad what country the city is in , then post the link in here

Mocholate
Jul 3, 2007, 6:06 PM
no , but i spose they could if i photoshop it :haha: i think the angle is off a bit too

A couple more new buildings have risen in the reidential area and city :D

Peter
Jul 3, 2007, 10:09 PM
oh wow! i love how modern the city looks. i don't think you ever posted the residential area at all either, unless i missed it! but it looks fantastic. the houses are so nice  i have a suggestion. try changing the angle the shadows are casting, because it's really dark.

Mocholate
Jul 3, 2007, 11:32 PM
 thanks .
yeah it is dark hey :haha: i only get about 3 chances to change the shadow setting before i get bug splatted tho , i just take the first one that looks half decent :haha: i think its more the light/dark slider bars i muff up

what specs does your PC run on ?

Peter
Jul 3, 2007, 11:41 PM
what is bug splatter? does that mean it gets real slow? mine does too (if that's what you mean). and the specs i'm running on, is that the hardware i have? if so, i got P4 3ghz, 1.5gb memory, and geforce 6600gt 128 mb video card. i hope that's what you meant by specs or i'll feel stupid telling you my computer. :haha:

Mocholate
Jul 4, 2007, 12:02 AM
:haha: yeah thats what i mean wuth the specs , i only have 2 gig processor , 578ram , 158mb? video ,and 80 gig HD . it sucks

A bug splat is when it completely shuts down and then displays an error report which they don't respond to :haha:

Mocholate
Jul 4, 2007, 12:53 AM
the hard drive has only 17% memory left :haha:

Peter
Jul 4, 2007, 1:18 AM
A bug splat is when it completely shuts down and then displays an error report which they don't respond to :haha:
oh okay i didn't know that

and my hard drive is only 37.2 GB with 15.1 GB free space. it is enough for me though because i don't play games which i know most people do these days.

Mocholate
Jul 4, 2007, 1:35 AM
so what do you reckon i should upgrade , i have a little bit of spare cash ?
a ram card ?

Peter
Jul 4, 2007, 1:54 AM
i'm not the best person to ask, but i would do memory because it's cheapest ;)

Mocholate
Jul 4, 2007, 2:00 AM
yeah , i'll try that it won't hurt thats for sure :D
thanks

foxmtbr
Jul 4, 2007, 9:06 PM

Mocholate
Jul 5, 2007, 7:02 AM
 thanks for the advice guys - i ordered a 1 gig card from the net cos my local shop only had 568?mb cards which he tried his best to sell to me
although i only have 2 card slots in my pc, it would be a bit silly to get the smaller
I'll do an update when i get that because bugsplats are just too common + i need to get more detail on the ground and stuff , blah blah blah Mo' blah blah blah :P

Hi Austin and welcome ! Hope to see your city soon !!!

Mocholate

Are you a member of a photo upload site like Imageshack / Photobucket?

i think Imageshack you dont need to register , if you do - upload the pic and grab the 'URL link tag" first then click the little yellow box above the post box here , and insert it

Mocholate
Jul 6, 2007, 12:20 AM
 thanks ,,i've got a lot buildings and other stuff in other files that i won't even try to get in there cos its so slow , i cant wait till the pc is fixed so i can get them in and finish all the detail etc

Jul 7, 2007, 3:40 AM
Woah! Sweet rendering, nice job! What did you do for that? Is it Kerkythea or Podium or something, or is that just photoshop?

Mocholate
Jul 7, 2007, 3:46 AM
 thanks took me a while to work out how to use it but yeah its Kerkythea ,
i've tried to use the others ,Irender/Vray/Podium but none of them worked , no photoshopping either

Austin55
Jul 7, 2007, 3:54 AM
um is any of that worth it? i photoshop free?

Mocholate
Jul 7, 2007, 4:02 AM
i think so
here is the same image without Kerkythea rendering
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c297/choppdat/aaaasss.jpg
i dunno what photoshop programs are free , i have 'microsoft picture' it that comes with windows XP but i havnt used it in any of these images

foxmtbr
Jul 7, 2007, 4:04 AM
Bah, I wish Kerkythea worked for me. :(

Adobe Photoshop, free? :haha:

It is if you get it the way I got it... :naughty:

Mocholate
Jul 7, 2007, 4:10 AM
:haha: Kerkythea nver used to work either , i don't know why it decided to start now :haha:
i got a free photoshop9 too , but 'picture it' is about 10 times easier to use

Peter
Jul 7, 2007, 6:54 AM
that "V" building on the right has a very interesting shape. i like it, but is it even possible? it sure would be pretty scary to be on one of those floors that's sticking out, looking down to see no building holding you up!

Patrick
Jul 7, 2007, 7:13 AM
VERY koo.

Yeah, I still have Photoshop 7, but you know, I didnt get it the way your supposed to :naughty:

Idk, I highly dont reccomend Kerkythea, while some results are good, the loading times are painful, you cant add clouds and such (without looking crappy) and there is virtually no feedback.

rbowk
Jul 7, 2007, 7:15 AM
thats what i thought peter but i lke itit is different itkindof reminds me of those three twisting towers in dubai but any way great job keep it up !!!!!!!!!!!

Mocholate
Jul 7, 2007, 9:46 AM
:cool:thanks

:haha: i was hoping someone would ask if it were possible and i did kinda steal the idea from Dubai's 'Legs tower" proposal
Its possible using a lightened steel frame and there is a enough vertical room for a 8x8 metre elevator shaft/core,
The towers bend backwards as well as sideways, with the bottom bending forward at the base where a counterweight could be located just below the yellow mark in the pic below , but it could also use internal guy wires or braces that oppose the bends and anchor the core to the floor near the front of the foyer, the top floors would have to have a restricted weight per square metre limit also :D
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c297/choppdat/tighjt.jpg

The technicality of it provided a perfect location for the Institute of technology which is across the street and recently was the venue for the Australian launch of the 08 Mustang

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c297/choppdat/lolopo.jpg
Patrick, yeah Kerk definately sucks sometimes :haha:
what program do you use for rendering ?

Austin55
Jul 8, 2007, 7:00 PM
:haha: oh those fords. I love mustangs. that looks like it took forever/maybe google is developing sketchup 7 with a kerrkythea thing included.

Peter
Jul 9, 2007, 1:49 AM
what is this kerrkythea thing i keep reading about on here? anyways, ti'm glad you explained the V tower. now i understand and it's a really cool idea for a building. the last twisting tower posted above looks great also. :)

Mocholate
Jul 9, 2007, 2:43 AM
thanks guys, i love Mustangs too but they don't really sell them here , a few years ago i made enquiry's to import and convert one to right hand drive -the cost - $AUS 90 000 , that dream was quickly banished :haha:

Kerkythea is a rendering program i used for the reflections+a little photo editing - its free to download and lot of fun but yeah it takes ages , the showroom took 1 hour to load and grrrr the mirror didn't come out well

Austin-there are some rendering programs already that can be used inside Sketchup , but they never work for me :P

Tanster
Jul 9, 2007, 5:24 AM
I have kerkythea installed in my computer for like months now and dont know how to import a model form SP, or do i need SP6 ??

Mocholate
Jul 9, 2007, 5:40 AM
Hi ,Tanster ,did you download the 'Sketchup to kerkythea exporter' also ?

maybe you need SU6 - i'm not sure

foxmtbr
Jul 9, 2007, 5:47 AM
^ I have to use 6 to export, it doesn't work for me with 5, and I even have the professional edition. :hell:

Patrick
Jul 9, 2007, 6:57 AM
Woah that Ford Picture looks positiviely realalistic!

Peter
Jul 9, 2007, 6:56 PM
i think i'll stick with Google SketchUp's export 2d image. :)

Mocholate
Jul 9, 2007, 8:59 PM
aww Peter don't give up ! its easy once you know how to use it

thanks Patrick

i added all my buildings to my 'Merita' city (dunno if i like that name :P )
but it kept shutting down when i turned on textures so i exported it without and did a B&W shot
and a smaller shot of the new stuff :D

Mocholate
Jul 9, 2007, 9:24 PM
All of them except the light greenish one in the middle , but that texture sucks :P

thanks:cool:

Austin55
Jul 9, 2007, 9:39 PM
how do you make em? there gooc

Mocholate
Jul 9, 2007, 9:44 PM
'MS paint' and 'picture it'-photo edit software

Peter
Jul 9, 2007, 11:25 PM
i love it :)

the rendering makes it so much better now i understand

foxmtbr
Jul 9, 2007, 11:49 PM
Beautiful! I wish I could use Kekythea, but all of my faces are backwards, so I can't. And reversing them would take the rest of my life to do, as reversing just my one tallest building took me a good hour or so.

Mocholate
Jul 9, 2007, 11:55 PM
aww spewin fox ,i'm sure you can figure something out , maybe CGII knows a quick way?

 peter

Peter
Jul 10, 2007, 12:21 AM
why doesn't SketchUp allow an option for reversing all blue faces to white!?
i suppose the program isn't smart enough to know what is the outside or inside of something you make i guess...?

Mocholate
Jul 10, 2007, 12:38 AM
I dunno , but i got a feeling you can change 'face me components ' or something , like any faces that are visable from the current view perhaps ???
because they cant really expect you to have to change all the faces that go the blueish colour:shrug:

Peter
Jul 10, 2007, 1:15 AM
I'm not sure, but the least they could do is allow you to select as many faces as you want and then choose reverse faces. Right now only one at a time can be done.

Mocholate
Jul 10, 2007, 6:32 PM
That would be nice :D

Hi all , my city was giving me the shits ,copying the the terain of Sydney was also driving me nuts so i deleted them both :haha:

although i exported my favorite buildings first and they will go into a new city

Here is the last shot i took of the city (which turned out crap)

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c297/choppdat/hjtnhrf.jpg

And this is a hint of whats to come in the new one

Jul 11, 2007, 5:39 AM
Beautiful towers! You're rapidly improving, I really like that last sneak peek shot!

I'm not sure, but the least they could do is allow you to select as many faces as you want and then choose reverse faces. Right now only one at a time can be done.

You can do that. That's not the problem. The problem is that the textures don't stay when you flip the faces, so I'd have to re-texturize every single face in the city. That could prove to be time consuming. :haha:

Mocholate
Jul 11, 2007, 6:25 AM
:haha: oops i reserected the thread ,i need austins ex-mayor to come and kill it for good :haha:

thanks fox thats how it goes , but to be honest i've been goofing around and putting little effort in to them , i will make up for it :D
