does anyone know how to get the little dimension box in the bottom right corner to come up? mine disapears whenever it wants to
Peter
06-14-2007, 05:47 AM
Try maximizing the SketchUp window. I also had the same problem until I realised that when the window isn't maximized, the dimension bar doesn't appear.
Sometimes the window may look like it's maximised, but it's really restored down but at the size of a maxed window!

Perhaps, what do you mean by this? Make a mini-city? Make a diagram like the one Patrick made recently?
Mocholate
06-25-2007, 04:48 AM
yeah , a city like we are doing here with all your best buildings merged on one map like the Dubai model but using our own designed ones
i only have a 156mb video card and 578 ram tho , so i cant set it up + 1 of you guys would be better experienced to take control of putting it together .
Its probably been done before and i noticed in the other SSC forum they had one going but it seems to have died
I had a look at Patricks diagram btw , very cool (excpt for missing 2 aussie buildings that rival Q1 ) :haha:

Sure, I'm up for it if other people are. Perhaps we'll get 2 or 3 of everyone's best? I have an insane computer, so I'll do the hono(u)rs of putting it together, unless someone else would prefer to.
Mocholate
06-25-2007, 06:59 AM
 I guess we would have to check the SSC thread to see what probs caused theirs to die , i know the building requirements they set out may have caused it as they asked for to many things like shading rear faces differently- so they dont have to do shadows i think , the main idea i was thinking is just to get a HUGE instant city

 4 so far , we should wait until we have a few more people and then put all our ideas on the table i reckon , hopefully all the SU doodlers here want to join in
so does anyone have any ideas on map , map layout etc ?
this one wont make it in. #1. cos its a bit UGLY and #2. its 4.6 MB :haha:

that one was more of an experiment i sketched the outline onto a vertical rectangle and used the follow me tool to make the shape , took about 30 mins , the render took 2 hours tho :haha:
Patrick
06-25-2007, 07:31 PM
4.6mb? YIKES!
Heres my suggestion, instead of doing individual buildings, why not use Textures? They'd speed up the preformance for sure.
And I think you should put more detail in the ground, you know, Trees, Roads. Yadda Yadda.
Mocholate
06-25-2007, 07:35 PM
hmm , i like the photo realism , but i prefer to sacrifice image quality for the physical quality and the shadowing it creates
Mocholate
06-25-2007, 07:37 PM
i use full textures on some tho ,but generally - like the one above , i used texture for the windows
Mocholate
06-25-2007, 07:40 PM
the ground detail will come when im finished also , it will help the proportions of ground objects mostly cos i am not using a square grid pattern + i am doing them now in seperate files
Mocholate
06-25-2007, 07:42 PM
i'm not saying i am good at creating physical shapes tho :haha:
i will shut up now :haha:

i really like it! definately not ugly, just unique ;) . it can be a city-icon building for it's uniqueness. or, maybe shrink it down really small and make it a monument of some sort? that should help the filesize also.
