I don't have so much a problem with Vancouver. I like the solid shapes. Just don't like the mouth.

London's is hideous.

Torino and Nagano have the coolest in recent history. Salt Lake is interesting, and I like Beijing's too.

^ haha mr.x! you know there's going to be some good mock-ups to come out!

but colours aren't even olympic colours... very odd. visually, it's actually quite distressing to see all four at once. those jagged edges and colours just make you want to look away. even the 'London' font is terrible. 0 out of 10 - and that's being generous.

In both London and Vancouver's cases, why don't they just keep the bid logo? They're both much better than the final games logos, and they're a waste of a perfectly good creative creations.

I think that this is a new Olympic tradition. What city can create the worst logo. I thought Beijing's logo wasn't that great, Vancouvers was that good either, but London wow that is terrible.

Seriusly all I see is Lisa giving head. I can't believe that was the best they could come up with, and that goes for all the Olympic logos after Torino's (Torino had an awsome logo IMO).

The bid logos are more of a corporate logo, and after Calgary 1988 the IOC forbid cities from using their bid logo as their Olympic logo. It was a major Olympic image re-hash.

Clearly the designers in fashionable and progressive London are ahead of their time. The world will appreciate this logo by 2011.

Anyways, $5 of my hard earned cash goes to the first city to feature an animated gif as their logo.

The bid logos are reflective of the bid committee's aim of winning the Olympics. They're basically created to represent the bid.

However, the Olympic logos are made so that it is simple enough to be used for marketing (e.g. sponsor advertisements - the 2010 logo looks good on tv next to corporate logos) and to an extent, the logo is simple enough for a clothing line. Also, the logo is reflective on the marketing plan the OCOG has set for the Games.

Epilepsy fears over Olympic logo

The new logo for the 2012 London Olympic Games could trigger epileptic fits and should not be shown on television, an expert has said. Professor Graham Harding developed the test used to measure photo-sensitivity levels in television material. He said the logo has failed the communication watchdog's Ofcom's guidelines and the flickering version of the logo should not be shown again. Organisers London 2012 said it was looking into it as a matter of urgency.

The jagged emblem, based on the date 2012, was unveiled on Monday. Professor Harding is an expert clinical neuro-physiology and he designed a test which all moving adverts need to undergo, to check they will not trigger a reaction in people with epilepsy.

He told BBC London 94.9FM: "The logo should not be shown on TV at all at the moment. "It fails Harding FPA machine test which is the machine the television industry uses to test images. And so is does not comply with Ofcom guidelines and is in contravention of them."

London 2012 told BBC London: "We are taking it very seriously and are looking into it as a matter of urgency." Christopher Filmer rang BBC London 94.9FM to say he and his girlfriend both suffered seizure while watching the logo on television. "The logo came up on TV and I was thinking about the 2012 and then I was out," he said.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The perfect excuse to drop the logo - it can't even be shown moving now and I thought that was the whole point!

^This a perfect case of a nespaper playing with the words of a profesional to get the desired result(unless the person actualy reads it carefully and slowly). In other words this article talks about a comercial with the logo that flickers from colour to colour prety quickly but to a regular person reading it it would apear as it is talking about the actual logo.
Personaly I dont like the logo but I can tell you that in 20 years if I see 10-20 olympic logos(without the host names) then this likely will be the only one ill remeber which is priceles. Some people are to uptight but I think the logo will be apreaciated later on and I also think it was prety brave of them to come up with something new and provocative. Just look at this for the first time there is a thread in the Vancouver section about the London games, something that would of not hapend otherwise..and for some of you this logo right now will help imbed the 2012 games in to your head 5 years before they even start.
enough of my rant.
great move london in my opinion, finaly a city that know how to market their games with their logo.

Wow! London's logo was a topic on Jon Stewarts "Daily Show" on Comedy Central last night. Evan Vancouver's didn't get that kind of exposure!

The clip can be seen here: The Daily Show (http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_daily_show/videos/headlines/index.jhtml?ml_collection=24229) (it's currently the first clip listed, called "London Logo")

Just hilarious. Once again, Jon Stewart has hit the nail on the head.

London 2012 emblem to undergo changes in coming weeks, months, and years

By Simon Hart, Sunday Telegraph
Last Updated: 12:55am BST 10/06/2007

The designers of the controversial London Olympics logo claim that they intended it as only the first part of an "evolving branding package".

The chunky, geometric shapes spelling out the date 2012 are supposed to be a "blank canvas" that will be filled with diverse images, photographs and sponsorship messages over the next five years, they say.

Many of the images used to "infill" the shapes will be created by the public, who will be encouraged to enter competitions held every six months, with the winner chosen by online votes.

During the Games, each sporting venue will have a logo bearing a separate theme. Other versions will be displayed on London streets.

Official sponsors, who have the right to use the logo to market products and services, have been granted freedom to choose their own "infills".

Last week, Lloyds TSB, the first official 2012 sponsor, produced newspaper adverts featuring the 2012 logo coloured in its blue and green corporate colours. The only constants will be the "2012" shape, the Olympic rings and the word "London".

Sources close to the organisers denied that the adverse public reaction to the logo had forced either a rapid redesign or a decision to speed up the release of further details. They said the later stages of the logo plans could not be revealed last week because of fears that non-sponsors would plagiarise the "infill" design.

Lawyers advised managers that only the outline shape should be released, along with the four base colours: pink, orange, blue and green. It was pointed out that at last week's launch, Paul Deighton, the London 2012 chief executive, said: "The shape is constant, but it'll never be static or dull and will evolve over the next five years."

Originally, the "infill" concept was intended to be made public in several months, when the initial logo was well-established in the public eye. However, those plans have now been pushed forward and the first "infilled" logo may be released by Friday.

The sources said the vast publicity surrounding the logo - albeit much of it negative - had made the image so well-known that organisers could proceed to this next stage more rapidly than previously planned.

Jacques Rogge, the International Olympic Committee president, has described the design as "an indication of the dynamism, modernity and inclusiveness with which London 2012 will leave its Olympic mark".
