Some news about the Hard Rock Hotel. Tasameem are the guys building it and the Hard Rock Hotel is just the operator. At least it isn't dead and they do intend to build
Abu Dhabi-based Tasameem Real Estate has invited selected contractors to express interest in providing a cost estimate for a high-rise tower project in Dubai
Located on Sheikh Zayed road, the project involves the construction of a 78-storey, mixed-use tower that will contain offices, a five-star hotel, residential apartments and a penthouse.
The total planned built-up area is 44,000 square metres.
Tasameem has not said if or when it plans to issue tender documents for the contract to build the tower, on which UK-based Atkins is the consultant.
Tasameem is also developing projects in Abu Dhabi. In April 2008, it awarded South Korea’s STX Group a $180m contract to build a residential development in the Mussafah district of the city.

Some pictures from HHHR Tower
Yes, the tower tops out at 317m. According to the shop drawings, the height at the top of the spire would be 317.6m.
The tower still has quite a few things left in terms of finishing( staircases, bathrooms, etc.). The higher floors are almost done. I happened to have an inspection on the roof, so i took some pics with my crappy cell.
The first car park is almost done. The staircase needs to painted using epoxy paint, and they are still in preparation. The link between the tower and the car park also needs some finishing work. The lift lobby is still awaiting inspection. The contractor is kinda slow, and the organisation is poor.
I haven't gone around to the second car park for inspections yet. It is still under preparation for plaster. Most of the office personnel park in the second car park.
Sorry if the images are huge :ohno:

Good news for the proposed P17 tower, or the Hard Rock Hotel.
Arabtec Holding, the biggest construction company in the UAE, said on Sunday it had won a building contract valued at AED710 million ($193 million) to build the first stage of an 80-storey tower comprising a five-star hotel.
The Dubai-based company’s Arabtec Construction unit received a “letter of award” from Tasameem Real Estate Co, of Abu Dhabi to build “P17 Tower” on Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai, according to an company statement posted on the Dubai Financial Market website.
It said the project would take 38 months to complete, adding that the tower had been designed by Atkins and comprised 80 floors, including a luxury hotel, furnished apartments, offices and a health club.
Last week, Arabtec Construction announced it had won a $190m contract to build the Bridge Towers office and hotel project at West Bay, Doha in Qatar.
The project comprises two buildings, one with 45 floors of office space and a 45-storey five star hotel.

yeah but those rich people can buy multiple condo's and rent them out. actually, i think dubai is trying to make everything cheaper so that it can get more tourists. the lower the prices, the more amount of families who can visit. and with such a large amount of condo's and cheap construction, these 3 bed, 2 bath condo's on the 40th floor of XXX tower will sell for less than 400,000 dollars. Something that would cost over a million in many US cities.

Dubai isn't so much a city as a collection of idiosyncratic projects. Many of them would be beautiful in isolation, but together they're just cacophanous. Maybe in subsequent generations, some level of gestalt will evolve - provided Dubai, Abu Dhabi, et al aren't ghost towns and the experiment hasn't failed utterly.

its such a crazy mix of modern architecture on the Sheik al sayed road.
looks like some kind of a city you would expect to see in a Sci fi movie
And the Emirates Park Towers is really running towards becoming at a good spot in the top 4 of the very best twin tower in the world with that wild and original peeling facade.
And if u consider both height and design the only thing it can be compared to would be the Petronas towers wich kinda is in class of its own.
