The Official Meet Up !!!
Vancouver Forum Meet !
AFTERglow (1079 Mainland Street, Vancouver)
Friday, July the 13th @ 8PM
Okay, so I'm sitting at this internet cafe on Robson while I await my internet to be hooked up. It's a balmy 25'C outside!
It's a good 6 months later than I planned on arriving, but I'm here and loving it. The streets bustle with excitement and energy and beautiful women are aplenty !
Everywhere I look, there is construction. To see these projects come from concepts and renderings to fruition, it's amazing!
For those who don't know, I just arrived in Van from Edmonton. They say that Alberta is going through a "boom", but I assure you that it doesn't compare to the magnitude of what is happening here, right now, in Vancouver !
Since, there hasn't been an official forum meet for quite some time - I thought that this would be a perfect time for us all to get together. Perhaps at a restaurant or a club. I'm up for whatever and I need to be shown around the town.
Let's plan a time and location and get together for, a Vancouver Summer Meet !

Congrats on your move!
Certainly Edmonton is not seeing that much in terms of urban development in this boom. The story is much different in Calgary however. Very similar to how Vancouver exploded with residential towers in the early 90s.

Welcome to Vancouver Hed!
I moved to Vancouver over 17 years ago. Absolutely the smartest thing I ever did in my life.
I'd like to meet some of you forumers. Count me in.

Glad you're enjoying yourself so far Hed Kandi. I hope that Vancouver is able to live up to its hype so that you have no regrets about the move. I'm sure this summer will not disappoint at least.
I'm up for a meet. Pretty much any week night or weekend works for me. Out of curiosity, where do you guys see as a quintessential Vancouver hang-out?

During the summer months Vancouver truly is an indulgence of the senses!
In 2005 we had a large meet where the Victoria and Seattle crews got together with Vancouverites for a day-long stint. We walked about downtown, went up to a forumers office in the TD Tower and ended up at Waterworks (is that what it was called?) in gastown.

Edmonton is seeing lots of development.
Just not the development we'd like to see.

Glowbal/Afterglow may be a bit high-end for the forum crowd.

We can check out both !
I'm still using the internet at this place on Robson, so I can only check this thread infrequently. Telus has completely screwed up my acct and installation - therefor I'm in a bit of a bind.
Okay, so is Friday good for everyone at 8pm. We can then decide where to go from there.
Let's meet at Afterglow at 8pm on Friday, and then decide where to go from there.
Post your name if you're in, so we can know who to expect !

Deep Soulful House is pretty much dead. It hit is peak around 2002 and now just sounds very washed-up and dated.... However there was a Hed Kandi night at celebrities last thursday...which probably played something of that sort. Just a 1 off event though. Cover was ridiculous...$35 at the door when I walked by.

i was just reading house nights are saturdays at crush, some weeknight at lotus and red room
i know ginger used to have some house nights too
vancouver as for clubbing is kind of weird - people will follow the nights around - like you will see the same people at different venues for the particular nights thing

^Starbucks are usually found within two blocks or less with each other. On the corner of Robson, two starbucks =)
I think the average opening of Starbucks in the GVRD is one per day, at least from what I recall from Global News.
Can you guys take some pics and post online about this meetup? I'm kind of curious =)

Damn, 8pm is a little late for me (because i've got plans, not because I'm an old man).
I'll probably be out on a patio somewhere downtown for a few beers around 4 or 5 on friday if anyone's interested...

Hey everyone. I too, have just moved to Vancouver recently from Alberta (Calgary, to be exact), although my Internet and cable got installed within a week, with Shaw :) Up until yesterday, however, I was at Waves or Blenz almost daily with my laptop.
Anyway, I'd love to attend tonight's meetup but I just saw this posting today and I'm busy. But I just want to say that even though it's been a little hot (not as hot as Calgary, though), I'm totally loving Vancouver after living here for just 2 weeks. There's so much to see and do and the vibrancy is unlike anything I'd usually see in Calgary. Plus I got a decent apartment with decent rent in a decent area and even has a view of downtown. No ocean view but I'll take what I can get...
So yeah, Vancouver rules!

Welcome to Vancouver Hed Kandi. Sorry I missed the meet-up this evening. I've been swamped with work and I took a week off of SSP to help keep me focused. I hope it was a good time and you sure picked an amazing week to make the official move. Once again, welcome.
